125th Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s Chicago Addresses : Guwahati

In commemoration of  the 125th Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s Historic Addresses at the Parliament of Religions, Chicago in 1893, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Guwahati conducted a Grand Procession, Public Meeting and Cultural Programme on 11th September, 20118.

The Grand Procession was taken out in the city of Guwahati where about 700 people participated comprising students, devotees, volunteers and admires of Swami Vivekananda. A colorful procession started from Ashrama complex, walked through Ulubari, Rehabari, Sarabbhati and was completed at Ashrama complex.

In the afternoon at 5 p.m. a Public Meeting was held at the Vivekananda Hall which was attended by about 500 audiences. Hon’ble Governor of Assam, Prof. Jagdish Mukhi graced the occasion as Chief Guest. Prof. Amalendu Chakraborty, Dean of Arts, Gauhati University and Sri Diganta Biswa Sarma, Devotee of Ramakrishna- Vivekananda-Aurobindo and Translator, were the Guest Speakers of the meeting. The meeting presided over by Swami Achyuteshananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Narottamnagar, Arunachal Pradesh. All the speakers spoke on the significance on Swami Vivekananda’s Historic Chicago Addresses. The meeting ended with vote of thanks by Dr. Bhabesh Kumar Das, the Treasurer of the Ashrama Managing Committee.

A drama on Swami Vivekananda was performed by Sarada Sangeet Vidyalaya, Guwahati.
