Flood Relief Services by Ramakrishna Math, Chennai 2015 (Photos)

a) Following are the medical camps we conducted today and the number of patients treated, in Chennai:
• Palliyankaranai – 300
• Thiruvallur district – 250
• Saidapet, Jayalakshmi nagar – 700
• Shollinganallur, OMR Road slum – 150
• Kosapur slum area – 200

b) We made an extensive survey in the slums of Ambatur area, covering Pillayar Kovil Street, Perumal Street, Rajeev Gandhi nagar, Murungembedu, Oragadam and started distributing a collection of essential items to most affected 185 slum people. Each one got a bundle of 5kg Rice, Blanket, Water packets, Bread loaf, Premium rusk, Mat, Biscuits, groceries.

c) In Nochikuppam, Chennai, 3rd Shelter – 300 people were served cooked food along with bun and bread for their next meals.

Due to unprecedented rainfall of 120 centimeters at Chennai breaking the 100 year old (1918) record, people in Chennai are in want of food and basic amenities like hot food, milk, drinking water, petrol/diesel, medical support etc. Many of lakes and water reservoirs were broke open making the water flow inward into the residential areas.

Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai provided primary relief in nearby areas where people were suffering from want of food. The cooked food was distributed for 6000 people on December 2nd, 2015 in the areas nearer to the seashore – Pattinappakkam, Srinivasapuram and Nadukuppam.

On December 3rd 2015, cooked food was distributed for 4000 people with the financial support of Devotees in the areas of Ramakrishnapuram, PNK Gardens and Sundaragramani and Slaterpuram. The monastic inmates (Swamis and Brahmacharins) along with the volunteers and Ramakrishna Mission students home boys were involved from vegetable cutting to food distribution at the affected areas. Also, 100 Mats and Blankets for families affected in slum areas near Triplicane.

On December 4th 2015, hot cooked food served for 1500 in Ganeshapuram Area and 500 in Mint Area along with 150 blankets, some Milk powder and water packets distributed there as well.

Cuddalore district has been the most affected region in the recent torrential rains all over Tamil Nadu.
The most affected areas in that district were Vandipalayam, Bhimanagar, Kuyavanpalayam, Cuddalore old town, Meliruppu of Katanpuliyur taluk, Narikuravar colony (Periyakuruchi) in Neyveli taluk, Kurunjipadi and kannuthoppu, Rasapalayam (Samattuvapuram) of that taluk.

Sri Ramakrishna Math, Mylapore, Chennai, at once began flood relief work in Cuddalore. 1500 families of those affected areas were provided 10 kgs. of rice, half a kilogram of Dal, two sarees, two lungis, a towel, a bedsheet, a mat. 400 families were further given vessels.
Distribution of food to 9000 people in Ennore, one of the most affected locality in Chenai, was organized by Ramakrishna Mission Students’ Home, Mylapore, Chennai.

Distribution of food to around 5000 people of Foreshore Estate was organized on 17.11.2015 by Sri Ramakrishna Math, Mylapore, Chennai. Moreover, 850 people were given free medical care on 16.11.201.

The Math is gearing up for more relief work.
