Programme on Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Right Act, Ranchi, March 2018

Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Morabadi, Ranchi, through it’s Divyayan Krishi Vijnan Kendra unit, organized a one-day training and awareness programme for farmers on Protection of Plant Varieties and Farmers’ Right Act on 30 March 2018. Farmers came to know about how they are entitled to save, use, sow, re-sow, exchange, share or sell their farm produce, including seed of protected varieties. Plant breeders and legal entities including farmers who provide Plant Genetic Resources (PGR) to breeders for developing new varieties shall receive a fair share of benefit from the commercial gains of the registered varieties. Farmers have the right to access seed of registered varieties at a reasonable and remunerative price.

Sri R. K. Singh, State Marketing Manager, IFFCO, and Dr. S. K. Vishnoi, Scientist, ICAR Research Centre (Palandu) were the Guest Speakers in the awareness programme. Divyayan Krishi Vijnan Kendra registered 448 varieties of plants.
