The Vivekananda Vedanta Society of Chicago celebrated the 125th Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s Chicago Addresses with two major functions.
On Saturday, 29 September 2018 at Vivekananda Retreat, Ganges, MI on the topic Vedanta in North America.
Four swamis joined Swami Ishatmananda for the retreat. Swami Tyagananda spoke on “Advaita Vedanta”. Swami Yogatmananda spoke on “Vishishta-Advaita Vedanta”. Swami Kripamayananda spoke on “Dwaita Vedanta”. Swami Ishtananda spoke on “Samanvaya Vedanta”. After the lectures, there were two hours of questions and answers.
On this occasion, new images of Sri Ramakrishna, Sri Sri Ma, Swamiji, and Swami Brahmananda were installed in the Ganges shrine by the Swamis.
About 130 people attended the retreat.
On Sunday, 30 September 2018 in Chicago, IL on the topic Unity in Diversity. Four swamis and three interfaith speakers participated in the program.
Swami Ishtananda spoke on “Hinduism: During the Upanishadic Era”. Rabbi Adir Glick spoke on “What It Means to be a Jew”. Swami Kripamayananda spoke on “Hinduism During the Philosophical Era”. Father Thomas Baima spoke on “What It Means to be a Catholic”. Swami Ishatmananda spoke on “Hinduism Before Sri Ramakrishna”. Rev. B. Herbert Martin spoke on “What It Means to be a Protestant”. Swami Tyagananda spoke on “Hinduism After Swami Vivekananda”.
The Vivekananda Vedanta Society also published a new book, “Many Ways to God”, for the occasion. To remember and reinvigorate the great ideal ushered in at the Parliament of World’s Religions in 1893, in this publication has compiled essential aspects of the prominent religions of our contemporary world and put them in chronological order.
During lunch, there was a presentation on the Vedanta Society’s activities. Lunch was followed by a cultural program, which featured different styles of Indian dance.
