125th Anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s visit to Kumbakonam

125 years ago, on the 5th of February 1897 at 5 p.m., Swami Vivekananda delivered his uprising speech in Kumbakonam. To record this great event, it is decided to install a statue of Swamiji at the Porter Town Hall where he delivered the speech ‘The Mission of Vedanta’.

Due to the local body elections, restrictions are in place, hence the installation of Swami Vivekananda’s Statue will be scheduled at a later date. Though the installation was delayed, to mark the occasion a simple ceremony was convened at Town Hall, a drawing competition was arranged by Ramakrishna Math, Thanjavur. Around 600 students participated in the competition and prizes were awarded to the winners.

Earlier, a statue of Swami Vivekananda was installed at the Murali Cafe premises which is the first statue in a public place in Kumbakonam.
