Our culture deeply respects mothers. The scriptures say, “Matru Devo Bhava, Pitru Devo Bhava” — treat your mother and father as divine beings.
On March 26th, 2024, the 4th and 5th graders of the Ramakrishna Math Sarada Vidyalaya, Madurai, participated in a heartfelt Matru Puja ceremony. A total of 72 students joined under the guidance of Swami Arkaprabhananda’s spiritual wisdom. His inspiring talks illuminated the glory of motherhood. He explained that worshipping our mothers is like worshipping all gods and goddesses, because mothers embody the essence of love and divinity.
In some cases, fathers accompanied students whose mothers couldn’t attend. The students performed various rituals to honour their parents, including washing their feet, offering sandalwood paste, and praying with devotion. The ceremony ended with students showing their reverence by bowing their heads to their parents’ feet (Pranams).
The Matru Puja program not only fostered gratitude towards mothers but also strengthened the spiritual connection within the school community. It was a beautiful reminder of the sacrifices mothers make, deserving our deepest respect and love.
