Rebuilding Lives: Rehabilitation for Leprosy-Cured Persons: Chennai Math, June 2024

Sri Ramakrishna Math, Chennai actively implements a Community Based Rehabilitation Programme, identifying individuals in need and providing essential resources to promote self-reliance. Over the past 36 years, in collaboration with the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Govt of Tamil Nadu, The Math has successfully rehabilitated 1900 persons.

The Math organized its Annual Rehabilitation Program for Leprosy-Cured Persons with Disabilities (LCDPs) on June 15, 2024. Dr. T.S. Selvavinayagam, Director of Public Health and Preventive Medicine, Tamilnadu, graced the occasion as the Chief Guest, while Dr. V. Dharmalingam, Additional Director of Medical Services, joined as the Special Guest. Both dignitaries commended our dedicated service to LCDPs across Chennai, Poonthamallee, Kanchipuram, Madurai, and Kumbakonam. Dr. V. Dharmalingam highlighted the notable progress made by Sri Ramakrishna Math services in treating chronic ulcers in Madurai during his special address. Swami Atmaghanananda ji, Dharmishthananda, Raghunayakananda, Satyapabhananda also spoke on the occasion.

In recognition of their exemplary service to other LCDPs, the Math honored 10 LCDPs with Special Awards. Additionally, Mr. A.M. Venkatakrishnan, a lawyer who supported these individuals through legal intervention, was also recognized for his contribution. Through this program, 46 LCDPs benefitted from our rehabilitation support.
