Relief Services : A Report As On 01 December 2024

Flood Relief

India: Floods in September caused severe damage in some parts of the country. The following centres conducted relief operations in response to the disaster:

Tripura: Kailashahar centre distributed 1500 saris, 1500 lungis, 1500 gamchas, 1500 mosquito nets, 1500 bars of bathing soap and 1500 bottles of hair oil among 1500 families in Unakoti district from 29 October to 13 November.

West Bengal:

Bamunmura centre distributed 130 kg rice and 10 kg pulses in North 24 Parganas district on 5 October.

Belgharia centre, Kolkata, distributed 3600 kg puffed rice, 3600 kg sattu (roasted and powdered gram), 3600 kg pulses, 1440 kg soya chunks, 14,400 kg potatoes, 7200 litres cooking oil, 1440 kg assorted spices, 7200 kg salt, 7200 kg sugar, 7200 packets of biscuits, 7200 saris, 7200 lungis and 7200 shopping bags among 7200 families in Howrah and North 24 Parganas districts from 27 September to 15 October.

Medinipur centre distributed 4088 kg chira, 725 kg sugar, 226 kg jaggery, 1877 kg puffed rice, 2040 kg rice, 1010 kg pulses, 1050 kg potatoes, 700 litres cooking oil, 115 kg assorted spices, 500 kg salt, 3436 biscuit packets, 183 kg milk powder, 504 litres drinking water, 3981 bars of bathing soap, 190 kg detergent powder, 500 tubes of toothpaste and 220 kg bleaching powder among 2962 families in Paschim Medinipur district from 24 September to 3 October. Additionally, the centre set up a medical camp where 201 patients were treated.

Narendrapur centre, Kolkata, served meals to 480 persons and distributed 1800 packets of snacks and 300 tarpaulins among 150 families in South 24 Parganas district from 23 to 27 October.

Sri Lanka: Following the floods caused by heavy rains in Manmunai North, the Batticaloa sub-centre of Colombo branch served meals to 710 people on 28 November.


Fire Relief

Assam: Digboi centre distributed 30 kg rice, 10 kg pulses, 5 litres cooking oil, 1 kg turmeric powder, 2 kg salt, 4 saris, 3 T-shirts, 2 sporting shirts (jerseys), 2 frocks,  4 trousers, 2 blankets, 5 sweaters, 2 shawls, 2 stoles, 2 sets of mirror and comb, 12 notebooks, 1 pencil box, 1 pencil, 1 eraser and 1 pencil sharpener on 7 November to a family at Balijan Kachari Gao, Digboi district, affected by a fire accident.

India:

Aalo: 166 trousers from 29 October to 8 November.

Amarkantak: 122 track pants on 19 November.

Bagda: 102 saris, 100 lungis and 100 towels on 27 October.

Balaram Mandir, Kolkata: 500 saris and 500 lungis on 29 September.

Bankura: 500 saris, 151 dhotis and 249 lungis from 27 September to 23 October.

Baranagar Math, Kolkata: 950 saris, 300 lungis and 200 dhotis from 19 September to 2 October.

Baranagar Mission, Kolkata: 27 dhotis, 912 saris, 477 lungis, 22 frocks and 28 sets of shirts & trousers from 22 September to 19 October.

Bolpur: 525 saris and 500 lungis from 1 to 5 October.

Chapra: 500 saris from 1 to 4 November.

Contai: 300 saris, 100 lungis and 250 dhotis from 28 September to 8 October.

Cuttack: 500 saris, 500 lungis and 17 books from 24 August to 24 November.

Digboi: 86 saris and 47 dhotis on 19 and 20 November.

Gadadhar Ashrama, Kolkata: 100 saris, 100 lungis and 250 children’s garments on 4 and 5 October.

Gourhati: 950 saris, 650 lungis and 57 dhotis from 5 September to 12 November.

Gurap: 500 saris and 100 lungis from 27 September to 6 October.

Guwahati: 500 saris from 24 September to 5 October.

Hatamuniguda: 166 saris and 166 lungis on 20 and 25 November.

Ichapur: 500 saris, 500 dhotis and 500 uttariyas from 3 to 27 October.

Imphal: 564 notebooks, 100 pens, 100 pencils, 80 pencil sharpeners, 100 erasers, 216 bars of bathing soap and 10 nail clippers on 22 November.

Indore: 207 saris, 540 T-shirts, 540 track pants and 747 packets of sweets on 5 and 24 November.

Kankhal: 144 packets of biscuits and 144 packets of snacks on 10 and 25 November.

Krishnanagar: 600 meals, 586 saris, 217 dhotis, 7 shirts, 7 trousers and 10 assorted ladies’ garments from 3 to 9 October and on 15 November.

Lalgarh: 250 saris and 500 lungis from 24 September to 10 October.

Madurai: 32 kg semolina, 32 kg pulses, 32 litres cooking oil, 6 kg chilli powder, 16 kg sambar powder, 16 kg tamarind, 32 kg sugar and 32 bars of bathing soap on 23 November.

Malda: 628 saris, 190 lungis, 173 dhotis and 173 uttariyas from 2 to 27 September.

Medinipur: 100 saris, 50 dhotis and 50 lungis on 15 November.

Narendrapur, Kolkata: 500 saris, 400 lungis, 100 dhotis and 100 uttariyas from 20 September to 8 October.

Nattarampalli: 99 kg pulses, 64 litres cooking oil, 22 kg assorted spices, 64 kg rock salt, 6 kg tea powder, 64 kg sugar and 66 bottles of hair oil on 19 November.

Raiganj: 500 saris and 500 lungis from 14 to 22 September.

Ramanathapuram: 200 saris on 30 October.

Saradapitha, Belur: 469 saris and 50 lungis from 20 to 22 September.

Sarisha: 682 saris and 640 lungis from 9 to 14 October.

Sinthi (Beni Pal Udyan), Kolkata: 300 saris and 40 children’s garments from 1 to 30 September.

Swamiji’s Ancestral House, Kolkata: 500 saris and 500 lungis from 13 September to 15 November.

Vrindavan: 1500 kg rice, 1500 kg flour, 300 kg pulses, 150 litres cooking oil, 300 kg salt, 150 kg sugar, 30 kg tea leaves, 60 kg milk powder, 300 packets of biscuits and 300 bottles of hair oil on 10 November.

Nepal: Kathmandu: 60 kg rice, 5 kg pulses and 8 litres milk in November. Also, a gas cylinder was refilled.

  • Phoenix: 1250 kg rice, 110 kg fortified cereals, 115 kg maize meal, 25 kg flour, 135 kg pasta, 100 kg porridge, 610 kg pulses, 45 kg soya chunks, 1050 kg assorted vegetables, 40 kg assorted spices, 125 kg salt, 510 litres cooking oil, 465 cans of tinned food, 22 kg soup powder, 5600 sachets of breakfast cereal, 3160 packets of biscuits, 1250 cakes, 407 kg snacks, 385 litres fruit juice, 11 kg jam, 12 kg sweetmeat, 270 loaves of bread, 150 kg assorted fruits, 15 kg meal drink, 143 litres flavoured milk, 505 litres milk, 15,000 tea bags, 225 kg sugar, 230 matchboxes, 2 sets of crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils, 115 bars of bathing soap, 115 bars of laundry soap, 31 kg detergent powder, 85 tubes of toothpaste, 60 toothbrushes, 280 adult napkins, 100 assorted garments, 6 assorted bedding items, 4 blankets, 7 school bags, 300 educational toys, 20 packets of seeds, 2 prepaid electricity vouchers and 1 wheelchair in November.

Winter Relief

The following centres distributed blankets and winter garments, shown against their names, to needy people:

India:

Aalo: 151 blankets, 298 sweaters and 157 pullovers from 29 October to 24 November.

Amarkantak: 280 blankets, 238 sweaters and 90 woollen caps from 1 to 19 November.

Bagda: 100 ladies’ chaddars on 27 October.

Dibrugarh: 500 blankets and 500 jackets from 29 September to 7 October.

Digboi: 123 blankets on 19 and 20 November.

Hatamuniguda: 44 blankets and 122 jackets on 20 and 25 November.

Imphal: 720 blankets from 10 to 28 November.

Indore: 207 blankets on 24 November.

Kankhal: 500 blankets, 520 sweaters and 795 caps on 10 and 25 November.

Medinipur: 100 blankets on 15 November.

Mumbai: 1500 blankets on 6 and 7 November.

Naora: 500 blankets from 16 to 22 November.

Puri Mission: 100 blankets on 28 November.

Raipur: 198 blankets on 13 November.

Srinagar: 100 blankets from 24 to 28 November.

Swamiji’s Ancestral House, Kolkata: 500 blankets from 13 September to 15 November.

Visakhapatnam: 500 blankets from 6 to 24 November.

Nepal: Kathmandu: 62 sweaters on 30 October.


Cyclone Rehabilitation

West Bengal: Two houses in Gangasagar that were destroyed by Cyclone Remal were rebuilt by Manasadwip centre, with financial assistance from the Headquarters. The houses were handed over to the families on 17 October and 10 November.


Tornado Rehabilitation

South Africa: Durban centre provided 100 concrete building blocks in October to a family in Tongaat area to rebuild their house that was damaged by a tornado in June.


Distress Rehabilitation

India: Jharkhand: Ranchi Morabadi centre relaid the roof of the house of a needy family in Ranchi district with 8 asbestos sheets in October.

Bangladesh: Bagerhat centre provided corrugated tin sheets and other house building materials to a poor family at Polotana, Gopalganj district, on 28 September to help the family reconstruct their house.
