Activities 2023-24 : Relief and Rehabilitation Work

Relief & Rehabilitation Work: The Math conducted several relief and rehabilitation operations during the year. The total expenditure incurred on these was Rs. 2.36 crore. In all, 1,20,819 people from 67,243 families in 916 villages were benefited. Details of major operations are given below:

a. Cyclone Relief:

      d. Winter Relief: A total of 20,378 blankets and 6927 winter garments were distributed among 25,175 people from 388 villages through 43 Math centres in India.

      e. Fire Relief: Puri Math distributed 70 kg rice, 35 kg wheat flour, 10 kg pulses, 11 kg soya chunks, 7 litres cooking oil, 7 kg salt, 15 blankets, and 12 saris among 30 people in 2 villages.

      f. Rehabilitation: The following centres carried out the following rehabilitation activities:

      1. Bagda:  Distributed a projector to a school in Purulia district.
      2. Naora: Built a house for poor families in South 24 Parganas district.
      3. Puri Math: Distributed 15 sewing machines.
      4. Thanjavur: Distributed a grinder along with necessary utensils and 3 sewing machines. Renovated the house of a poor woman at Udharamangalam village in Thanjavur district.

      Ramakrishna Mission

      Relief & Rehabilitation Work: The Mission conducted several relief and rehabilitation operations during the year. The total expenditure incurred on these was Rs. 6.20 crore. In all, 4,02,890 people of 1,84,240 families in 3685 villages benefited. Details of some major operations are given below:

      a. Cyclone Relief:

      g. Winter Relief: A total of 68,933 blankets and 14,718 winter garments were distributed among 61,287 families and 88,652 people in 1749 villages through 85 branch centres in India.

      h. Gangasagar Mela Relief:

      • Seva Pratishthan hospital extended round-the-clock medical service on the Mela grounds. In all, 7553 patients were treated, out of which 186 received indoor medical care. Also, the centre distributed 180 blankets among the pilgrims.
      • Manasadwip centre provided board and lodging to 831 pilgrims at its unit in Gangasagar.
      • Headquarters distributed 500 blankets among the pilgrims.

      i. Economic/General Rehabilitation: The following rehabilitation activities were carried out by our centres:

      1. Bajepratappur (Bardhaman): Distributed 160 bags of potato sprouts.
      2. Chennai Students’ Home: Built 40 huts, a community hall for tribal families, and installed a hand-pump in Alapakkam village of Chengalpattu district.
      3. Gurap: Distributed 4 sewing machines.
      4. Guwahati: Distributed 11 sewing machines and 10 handloom machines (tantsals).
      5. Headquarters: Supplied 140 bags of cement, 150 iron bars, 300 cubic feet of stone chips, 650 cubic feet of sand, 342 kg iron for grills, 2 wooden doors, 15 boxes of tiles, and a set of commodes to a poor family in Purba Medinipur district.
      6. Imphal: Distributed 350 kg of potato sprouts, 120 kg green pea seeds, 35 kg rajma seeds, and 20 kg coriander seeds.
      7. Indore: Provided 25 sets of tables and benches, 305 desks, 2 tables, 30 ceramic green boards, 2 noticeboards, 6 almirahs, 5 water purifiers, 3 Bluetooth speakers, 4 ceiling fans, 5 metal trunks, and 31 sets of kitchen utensils to 17 schools in Indore and Khargone districts.
      8. Kankhal: Distributed 6 electric rickshaws.
      9. Karimganj: Distributed 19 sewing machines.
      10. Khetri: Distributed 54 sewing machines.
      11. Mumbai: Provided 5 medical kits to ASHA workers serving in 5 villages. Excavated 2 wells and installed 2 solar-powered drinking water systems at Vangadpada and Dhanoshi villages in Palghar district also opened 4 tailoring schools for women at Bandhghar and Dhanoshi villages in Palghar district, Kusumbale Wadi village in Raigad district, Biraripada village in Palghar district.
      12. Rahara: Distributed 3 sewing machines and 2 cycle vans.
      13. Salem: Provided 1 ophthalmoscope, 5 steel tables, 1 steel table with mattress, 4 weighing machines, 1 UPS, 1 AH battery, 1 steel bench, 8 BP apparatuses, 4 dressing scissors, 4 surgical scissors, 1 water dispenser, 1 water purifier, 1 geyser, 35 bed-sheets with pillow covers, 2 baby warmers, 3 stethoscopes, 2 steel cupboards, 1 laser printer, 1 autoclave sterilizer, 1 stretcher, 1 infants’ trolley, 1 crash cart trolley, 1 instrument trolley, 1 dressing trolley, 3 suction apparatuses, and 1 photo-therapy unit to 4 hospitals and 4 primary health centres in Salem district.
      14. Taki: Distributed 10 electric rickshaw vans.
      15. Vadodara: Distributed 30 sewing machines. Renovated a hostel building at Dharampur in Valsad district and the roof of the prayer hall of a school in Ahmeda.
