Commemorating Swami Vivekananda’s Visit to Kumbakonam: A Grand Art Exhibition
Historical Significance:
Swami Vivekananda’s three-day visit to Kumbakonam in 1897, culminating in his powerful “Mission of Vedanta” lecture, was celebrated with a grand art exhibition marking its 129th anniversary. The Ramakrishna Math, Thanjavur, organized the event, held from February 3-5.
Artistic Tribute:
Students from the Kumbakonam Government College of Fine Arts contributed paintings, sculptures, and digital artworks inspired by Swamiji’s life and teachings. The exhibition showcased their artistic talents and provided a visual representation of Swamiji’s message.
Venue and Attendance:
The exhibition was held at the Porter Town Hall, the very location where Swamiji delivered his 1897 lecture, adding a profound historical connection. Thousands of school and college students attended, immersing themselves in Swamiji’s wisdom. Each attendee received a copy of “Flashes of Swami Vivekananda.”
Concluding Ceremony:
The exhibition concluded on February 5 with a prize distribution ceremony presided over by Kumbakonam MLA, Sri. Anbazhagan. He commended the students’ dedication and artistic brilliance.
Awards and Recognition:
Out of the 120 artworks displayed, the top 20 received prizes, certificates of appreciation, and mementos. All participating students were honored with certificates and portraits of Swami Vivekananda as encouragement to carry forward his ideals.
