Chennai Math celebrated the 34th National Youth Day on January 12 with the following programmes:
1) There was Mass Surya Namaskar by 250 youths at Vivekananda House in which Padma Sri Vivek, Cine Actor participated.
2) “Leadership Training to College Students in the Ideal of Swami Vivekananda” was organised at the Math which was attended by 260 students. The attendance was more than expected as the Government had advanced the holidays for Pongal. Sri Ramesh Prabha, Educationist, addressed the students. There was a panel discussion on ‘ABC of Success’ – Swamiji’s Vision of New India. Revered Swami Gautamanandaji Maharaj delivered the Benedictory Address.
3) In the evening the members of the Vivekananda Youth Forum of the Math took out a procession with the Portrait of Swamiji through the slums around Vivekananda House and the response was overwhelming. About 8,000 people watched the procession. The local population offered flowers and the residence performed Arati when the procession passed through their houses.
4) The Day was also celebrated at the Rural Development Centre at Meyyur village. About 100 local people including 50 students took part in the procession through all the Temples in the village singing Bhajans and Reciting Swamiji’s quotations.
