Programme on Millets and Holistic Health: Morabadi, Ranchi, April 2025

Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Morabadi, Ranchi


On 11 April 2025, a programme on “Nutrition, Sustainability, and Holistic Health through Millets” was organised at the auditorium of Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Morabadi, Ranchi. The chief guest of the event was Padma Shri Dr. Khadar Valli, a renowned millet expert and health guide.

Objective of the Programme:
To promote awareness about the health benefits and uses of millets.

Programme Details:
The event began with the lighting of the lamp and chanting of Shanti Mantras by the monastic members. Following this, Shri Manish Priyadarshi, a former student of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith, Deoghar, presented a brief introduction on the life and work of Dr. Khadar Valli.

In his welcome address, Swami Bhaveshananda, Secretary of the Ashrama, stated that nature has provisions to fulfil our needs, not our endless desires.

Dr. Khadar Valli elaborated on various aspects of millets, including their nutritional value, health benefits, and ways of consumption. He discussed in detail different aspects of diabetes and how it can be controlled through diet. He recommended specific millets for different health conditions and suggested their use in de-addiction efforts as well. He emphasized soaking millets for 8 hours before consumption and also highlighted the benefits of sunlight. He responded to various questions posed by the audience.

During the programme, certificates were distributed by Dr. Khadar Valli to the successful trainees of the Yoga Instructor Training Programme held at the Ashrama.

The vote of thanks was delivered by Shri Ashok Baghwar. The programme was attended by around 300 people. Former students of Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith, Deoghar, played a key role in organizing the event.
