Commemorating the 125th Year of Swami Vivekananda’s Last Visit to Jalpaiguri

To mark the 125th year of Swami Vivekananda’s last visit to Jalpaiguri Town Station, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Jalpaiguri launched a long-term Mega Tree Plantation Programme for the North Bengal region on 21 June 2025.

The programme, aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and encouraging community participation in tree plantation, was held in the gracious presence of:

  • Dr. Jayanta Kumar Roy, Honourable Member of Parliament, Jalpaiguri
  • Dr. Arun Kumar Sit, Principal Scientist, CPCRI, Mohitnagar, Jalpaiguri

Dr. Jayanta Kumar Roy emphasized the urgent need to build a greener world for future generations, while Dr. Arun Kumar Sit provided valuable insights on plant growth, care, and ecological responsibility.

The programme commenced with Vedic chanting, followed by inspiring speeches and gifting of plants to all dignitaries.

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from over 350 individuals, including students, youth, and members of the general public, reflecting a strong collective commitment to environmental consciousness.

The programme concluded with the National Anthem, after which plants and tiffin were distributed to all participants. The initiative stands as a tribute to Swami Vivekananda’s vision of harmony with nature and collective service to society.
