Flood Relief Work in Northeast India: A Brief Report, June 2025

In early June, relentless monsoon rains in Northeast India triggered severe floods and landslides across multiple states, resulting in significant loss of life, widespread displacement, and extensive damage to infrastructure and agriculture.

Ramakrishna Mission conducted flood relief activities from 1 to 16 June 2025 through its seven branch centres across Assam, Manipur, and Tripura.

Primary relief operations were carried out in parts of Cachar, Hojai, and Sribhumi districts in Assam; East Imphal district in Manipur; and Unakoti and West Tripura districts in Tripura.

Dhaleswar, Sribhumi, and Viveknagar centres served cooked meals to 7,660 people. In addition to these three, Guwahati, Imphal, Kailasahar, and Silchar centres distributed Ration kits, drinking water, and other essential items to over 4,800 affected families. Additionally, medical camps were organised by the Sribhumi and Viveknagar centres, where 423 patients from flood-affected areas received treatment and medicines. The total expenditure for these relief services so far amounts to ₹40 lakh.

With the decrease in rainfall and receding floodwaters, the situation is gradually returning to normal, and displaced residents are beginning to return home. Depending on ground conditions, relief activities will be further expanded.
