On the occasion of the 150 th Birth Anniversary of Sister Nivedita and the 125th anniversary of Swami Vivekananda’s historic address at the Parliament of Religions held at Chicago, a Youth Convention was held at Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Malda on 18 February 2018. A total of 350 persons were present on this occasion. This included 225 students and teachers of 15 schools, 2 colleges and the Yuva Maha Mandal unit of Malda. Besides this, 125 devotees and persons connected with the Ashrama were present. The Convention was held in the main temple of the Ashrama.
Lectures were delivered by Prof. Shaktipada Patra, Prof. Dalia Chattopadhyay, Prof Bani Mishra and Ms. Adrija Chowdhury on themes relevant to the seminar. Students of the different schools and colleges performed songs, audio-drama and other cultural programmes on this occasion. A Quiz Competition on Swami Vivekananda and Sister Nivedita drew the enthusiastic participation of 35 teams. The prizes for this competition went to the following: 1st – Soumayadeep Biswas & Souvik Ram; 2nd – Soumyadeep Das & Gourav Podder.
A short question-and- answer session was also a feature of the program. Dr Chandan Kumar Roy of the Rabindra Bharati University of Calcutta performed devotional songs for the assembled audience. The programme was followed by lunch Prasad for all persons present on this special occasion.
