To commemorate the 79th Independence Day of our country, Ramakrishna Mission Sevashrama, Contai, organised a one-day free medical camp at Ramakrishna Vivekananda Pathachakra, Negua, a backward area under Egra Block, Purba Medinipur.
Seven specialist doctors, assisted by paramedical staff and local volunteers, treated 214 patients. Services included general medicine, gynaecology, paediatrics, dental care, and ophthalmology. Blood sugar tests were provided mostly free of cost, and 13 cataract patients were referred for surgery.
Expectant mothers and children were provided with nutritious food items and medicines under the Maternity and Child Welfare Services Project, supported by the Infosys Foundation.
The camp was inaugurated by Dr. Sukumar Panigrahi, a senior physician of Contai, in the presence of villagers, students, and patients. Alongside treatment, the doctors also conducted a short awareness session on health and hygiene. Swami Mayadhishananda, Secretary of the Sevashrama, coordinated the entire programme.
The camp was well-attended, with patients coming from distant villages, and all medicines were distributed free of cost.
