A Brief Report of Recent Relief Services as on 1 July 2018

FLOOD RELIEF

 

(i) Assam:

(a) In the wake of heavy rainfall leading to flooding and submerging of various parts of Karimganj district, Karimganj centre distributed 2050 kg rice, 420 kg dal, 1000 kg potatoes, 84 litres of edible oil, 425 kg salt, 84 kg milk powder, 840 packets of biscuits, 2430 packets of ORS and 1268 halogen tablets among 405 flood-affected families from 17 to 22 June.

(b) Following the recent floods in Cachar district, Silchar centre conducted a medical camp and provided medical care and free medicines to 722 patients in government shelter homes on 19 and 20 June.

(ii) Manipur: In response to heavy rainfall and resultant flooding of the rivers and breaching of riverbanks, Imphal centre distributed 10,950 kg rice, 2000 kg dal, 1082 litres of edible oil, 1100 kg salt and 1100 packets of dry fish among 1070 flood-affected families in Wangoi area of Imphal West district on 25 and 26 June.

(iii) Tripura : In response to heavy rainfall and resultant flooding of the rivers and breaching of riverbanks, Kailashahar centre started primary relief services to the flood-affected areas.

 


 

CYCLONE RELIEF 

West Bengal: Ramharipur centre distributed, from 9 to 25 June, 464 asbestos sheets, 330 batams, 391 chalkaths and 137 matkas among 55 families of 14 villages in Bankura district whose houses had been damaged by a cyclone.


SUMMER RELIEF 

  • Hyderabad centre distributed 50,455 litres of buttermilk and 1.34 lakh litres of drinking water to thirsty wayfarers in Hyderabad city and Karimnagar and Mahbubnagar districts from 31 March to 7 June.
  • Salem centre distributed 3560 litres of buttermilk from 1 to 31 May.

 

DROUGHT REHABILITATION 

Vadodara centre desilted 10 wells in Dahod district, Gujarat, from 15 April to 30 May in order to provide drinking water facility to the tribal community living there.


ECONOMIC REHABILITATION

Chandipur Math handed over 2 sewing machines on 5 June to poor and needy persons.

REHABILITATION 

West Bengal: Mekhliganj centre helped an old widow living nearby to build her house.  The construction was completed on 24 May.


DISTRESS RELIEF

(i) To extend a helping hand to poor and needy people, 9 of our centres in different parts of the country have distributed 2645 shirts/T-shirts, 1928 trousers, 1600 saris, 1121 ladies’ shirts/T-shirts,  148 tops, 115 ladies’ trousers, 1320 socks/mufflers, 200 school bags, 8000 kg rice, 8000 kg flour, 1600 kg dal, 1600 litres of mustard oil, 320 kg milk powder, 160 kg tea leaves, 800 kg sugar, 1600 kg salt, 1600 packets of washing powder, 1600 bars of bathing soap and 1600 pairs of slippers among poor and needy people during the month of June.

(ii) In the current year (2017-18), new adult garments donated to us by ITC Ltd. were distributed among the poor and needy under the Garments Distribution Programme. ITC Ltd. has donated nearly 4.17 lakh garments and 0.65 lakh other items (2,59,132 shirts/T-shirts, 1,58,172 trousers, 41,393 belts/wallets, 941 school bags, 1000 pairs of socks and 11,262 shoes) to 87 of our branch centres. Distribution is underway.
