Activities 2020-21 : Relief and Rehabilitation Services

Relief and Rehabilitation Services by Ramakrishna Mission in 2020-21

The Mission conducted several relief and rehabilitation operations during the year. The total expenditure incurred on these was Rs. 27.40 crore. In all, 25,86,400 people of 6,51,202 families in 5396 villages were benefitted. Details of some major operations are given below:

General Distress Relief:

Our branch centres distributed the following items to needy people in their respective areas: 4500 plates of cooked food, 1340 kg rice, 940 kg flour, 1175 kg pulses, 81 kg soya chunks, 1935 liters of cooking oil, 50 kg potatoes, 570 kg salt, 235 kg sugar, 90 kg assorted spices, 47 kg tea leaves, 1244 packets of biscuits, 225 packets of noodles, 439 bars of chocolates, 40 kg sweets, 281 packets of a health drink, 120 bottles of health drink, 130 packets of milk, 398 kg milk powder, 225 packets of cakes, 105 jars of candy, 192 bottles of chyawanprash, 200 packets of dates, 200 packets of roasted gram, 108 packets of fruit powder, 188 packets of glucose powder, 1085 bottles of gooseberry (amla) juice, 192 bottles of honey, 50 bottles of isabgol (a dietary fibre), 16,865 saris, 1520 dhotis, 180 lungis, 17,620 shirt pieces, 3782 tops, 544 sets of children’s garments, 81 wrappers, 250 bedsheets, 250 mats, 200 mosquito-nets, 438 towels, 25 jars of cold cream, 40 jars of petroleum jelly, 14 skin moisturizers, 44 bottles of almond oil, 250 sets of cooking vessels, 280 mugs, 23 sets of volleyball & net, 23 cricket kits, 1114 notebooks, 314 pens, 394 pencils, 200 pencil sharpeners, 280 erasers, 180 school bags, 1282 face masks, 500 bottles of hand sanitizer, 2 litres of hand sanitizer, 105 packets of room freshener, 408 bottles of hair oil, 5284 bars of soap, 188 bars of detergent soap, 280 kg detergent powder, 14 packets of detergent powder, 188 toothbrushes, 482 tubes of toothpaste, 9800 sanitary napkins, 1810 pairs of socks, 33 pairs of footwear, 100 umbrellas, 50,000 halogen tablets, 3 water tanks, etc. Mumbai centre provided 2 sets of instruments (each set containing a baby-weighing digital scale, a baby weighing hanging-type scale, a non-contact thermometer, a digital stature meter, a digital blood pressure apparatus, a pregnancy card, an infantometer, a digital stopwatch, an MUAC tape, a head circumference measuring tape and an adult weighing scale).

Gangasagar Mela Relief:

Seva Pratishthan hospital conducted a round-the-clock medical relief camp during Makar Sankranti Mela. In all, 2135 patients were treated, out of which 3 received indoor medical-care. Besides, 180 blankets were distributed among the poor pilgrims and monks.

Winter Relief:

A total of 45,702 blankets and 7820 winter garments (sweaters, jackets, sweatshirts, etc) were distributed among poor people through 66 centres in India.

Economic Rehabilitation:

The following centres distributed the items shown against their names:

  1. Gurap: 10 sewing machines.
  2. Khetri: 60 sewing machines.
  3. Limbdi: 1 tricycle.
  4. Rahara: 1 cycle rickshaw, 1 rickshaw-van and 6 sewing machines.
  5. Taki: 5 rickshaw-vans.

Cyclone Rehabilitation:

  1. Cyclone Bulbul: Belgharia centre built a two-storied hostel-cum-storm-shelter-house, bore a submersible pump and handed over 26 two-room houses to the afflicted families at G Plot, Sundarban, South 24 Parganas district.
  2. Cyclone Amphan:

(a) Contai centre provided 20 asbestos sheets, 100 tiles, 197 cft sand, 28 bags of cement, 17 GI pipes, 14 tin sheets, 117 kg iron grills for gates and windows, 4 cft wood for doors and windows, 1 door, 3 windows and other construction materials under ‘Build your Own House’ scheme to two families in Purba Medinipur district to reconstruct their houses.

(b) Manasadwip centre provided 1841 asbestos sheets, 303 GI pipes, 169 tin sheets, 252 concrete pillars, 199 bamboo poles, 696 iron rods, 928 ft matka (ridge covers), 101 tarpaulins, 521 bags of cement, 295 cft white sand, 2508 cft red sand, 1316 cft stone chips, 30,100 bricks and 25 kg binding wire under ‘Build your Own House’ scheme to 215 affected families and reconstructed a school building.

(c) Taki centre distributed 5 rickshaw-vans and helped 13 families to repair and renovate their houses by providing 67 cement pillars, 177 asbestos sheets, 172 bamboo poles and other construction materials.


Relief and Rehabilitation Services by Ramakrishna Math in 2020-21

The Math conducted several relief and rehabilitation operations during the year. The total expenditure incurred on these was Rs. 6.80 crore. In all, 7,25,058 people of 2,13,769 families in 2792 villages were benefitted. Details of some major operations are given below:

Distress Relief:

Our branch centres distributed the following items among 17,879 poor and needy people in their respective areas: 100 food packets, 3490 kg rice, 1325 kg flour, 673 kg pulses, 45 kg gram, 249 kg soya chunks, 658 liters of cooking oil, 263 kg salt, 225 kg sugar, 49 kg assorted spices, 23 kg tea leaves, 390 packets of biscuits, 300 packets of sweets, 14,076 saris, 932 dhotis, 544 lungis, 6836 shirts, 4583 shirt pieces, 1871 trousers, 2154 tops, 2154 leggings, 298 sets of assorted garments, 937 sets of children’s garments, 206 bedsheets, 500 mosquito-nets, 300 towels, 300 tubes of antiseptic cream, 100 plates, 3150 face masks, 200 bottles of hand sanitizer, 151 bars of soap and 100 sanitary napkins.
d. Flood Relief: Our centres in Gujarat and Kerala distributed the following items among 1600 people of 450 families: 1000 kg rice, 400 kg flour, 400 kg pulses and served 1000 plates of cooked food to flood-affected people in slum areas.


Winter Relief:

A total of 14,643 blankets and 3156 winter garments (sweaters, jackets, sweatshirts, etc) were distributed among poor people through 30 Math centres in India.


Economic Rehabilitation:

Koyilandy centre distributed 8 tailoring machines.
