Highlights of the Year : 2016-17

With regard to Ramakrishna Mission & Ramakrishna Math, the following events and achievements during the year under review are worth mentioning:

The headmistress of the primary school of Chengalpattu centre received Dr Radhakrishnan Best Teacher Award from the Govt. of Tamil Nadu.

Three students of Chengalpattu higher secondary schools were adjudged champions in junior, senior and super-senior categories in the zone level games and sports held by School Education Department, Govt. of Tamil Nadu.

The Middle School of Chennai Sarada Vidyalaya received the Best School Award from the Government of Tamil Nadu.

Two teachers of Model Higher Secondary School for Girls and Girls’ Higher Secondary School of Chennai Sarada Vidyalaya received Dr Radhakrishnan Best Teacher State Award.

Students of Chennai Students’ Home polytechnic participated in the State Polytechnic College Games and Sports (SPCGS) Divisional Tournament 2016-17 organized by Directorate of Technical Education, Government of Tamil Nadu, and secured 1st place in Athletics, Handball and Kho-Kho, and 2nd place in Ball Badminton. The Kho-Kho team secured 1st place in the SPCGS state level tournament also.

A team of four students of Vivekananda College, Chennai Vidyapith, won the national level music competition, Bhajan Samrat, conducted by the channel Sri Sankara TV.

A student of Coimbatore Mission centre won the gold medal in junior boys category in the State Archery Championship held by Tamil Nadu State Archery Association.

A student of the College of Arts and Science of Coimbatore Mission Vidyalaya who participated in the Advanced Leadership Camp conducted by NCC Group Headquarters, Coimbatore, received a medal and a certificate for his outstanding performance.

Dr Lobsang Tsetim, an ophthalmologist at Itanagar hospital, received the Eye Health Heroes Award at the 10th General Assembly meeting of the International Agency for Prevention of Blindness held in Durban (South Africa).

A student of Katihar school secured the gold medal at the state-level weightlifting competition conducted by Art, Culture and Youth Department, Government of Bihar, at Sitamarhi.

A student of class 10 of Medinipur school secured first rank in the 15th National Cyber Olympiad conducted by Science Olympiad Foundation, Gurgaon.

A student of Medinipur school secured the 9th rank and a student of Rahara centre the 10th rank in the West Bengal Joint Entrance Examinations (Medical) conducted this year.

A student of the hostel attached to Nagpur Math secured the Best Student Award 2015-16 in Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University.

The football team of Narainpur school won the football championship conducted by Central Reserve Police Force.

Twenty-one students of class 11 of Narendrapur Vidyalaya who participated in the Junior Scholarship Test, 2016, conducted by Jagadish Bose National Science Talent Search, Kolkata, were awarded junior scholarship and 10 others received junior encouragement award. Besides, the school won the Best School Award.

Purulia Vidyapith was awarded Ramawatar Gupta Pratibha Puraskar 2016 by Sanmarg Foundation, Kolkata, for achieving the best results in Hindi in class-10 examination conducted by West Bengal Board of Secondary Education.

Students of Purulia Vidyapith won 5 gold, 8 silver and 2 bronze medals in the Purulia District Annual School Athletic Meet. The Vidyapith team was adjudged the best participating team.

Two students of the Sanskrit Department of RKMVERI (deemed university), Belur, won silver medals and another a bronze medal, at the national level cultural competitions conducted by Rashtriya Sanskrit Sansthan, New Delhi.

Seven students of the Sanskrit Department of RKMVERI (deemed university), Belur, won 2 gold medals, 1 silver medal, 3 bronze medals and 3 consolation prizes at the 11th All India Sanskrit Students’ Talent Festival conducted by Rashtriya Sanskrit Vidyapeetha, Tirupati.

Two teams representing Tamil Nadu state, which had two students of Coimbatore faculty centre of RKMVERI (deemed university), won the under-19 and above-19 national level football tournaments conducted by the Rural Games Federation of India. The teams also won the Rural Games International Football tournaments held at Bhutan.

Eight students of the faculty of General & Adapted Physical Education and Yoga (GAPEY) of Coimbatore faculty centre of RKMVERI (deemed university) won 3 gold medals, 2 silver medals and 3 bronze medals, and also the overall national championship in the 3rd National Youth Rural Games and Sports Archery Tournament conducted by Youth Rural Games and Sports Federation of India.

An assistant professor at Narendrapur faculty centre of RKMVERI (deemed university) received the Young Scientist Award from the Society of Extension Education, Agra, for his contribution to the field of extension education.

Three students of Veda Vidyalaya, Belur Math, secured three prizes, viz. the first, second and third, in three Sanskrit literary competitions conducted by Samskrita Bharati at Varanasi.

International Business Council, New Delhi, conferred Indira Gandhi Sadbhavana Award on Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission.
