Relief Services : A Brief Report as on 1 November 2021

Some of our centres continued Covid-19 pandemic relief work. Details of their work are given below:

Digboi centre administered vaccination to 594 people on 25 September.

Belagavi centre distributed 3625 kg wheat flour, 3625 kg jowar (millet), 1450 kg rava (semolina), 1450 kg pulses, 1451 litres cooking oil, 1450 kg sugar, 181 kg tea powder, 2900 bars of bathing soap, 2900 bars of washing soap and 4 thermometers among 705 families in Belagavi district from 11 June to 16 August.

Mumbai Corporation is running a free vaccination centre at Mumbai centre; 9768 doses were administered between 29 August and 27 October.

At Rahara centre 352 people were vaccinated on 1 and 25 October.

Sarisha centre served 41,100 plates of cooked food to the needy in South 24 Parganas district from 4 July to 22 September.

 

Fiji centre distributed 1310 kg rice, 1310 kg flour, 262 kg split peas, 131 kg blue peas, 131 kg potatoes, 52 kg noodles, 131 kg onions, 131 litres cooking oil, 131 kg salt, 131 packets of biscuits, 13 kg tea leaves, 131 kg sugar, 59 kg milk powder, 141 assorted seeds packets, 9720 face masks, 2 dual crutches, 23 litres hand sanitizer, 131 bars of washing soap, 10 woollen blankets, 150 pairs of socks and 150 children’s garments among 131 families in and around Nadi in October.

Durban centre, along with its sub-centres, served cooked food to 4745 people, and distributed 1826 kg rice, 525 kg flour, 621 kg maize meal, 624 kg samp, 130 kg semolina, 180 kg vermicelli, 939 kg pulses, 2600 kg onions, 1820 kg potatoes, 497 kg salt, 76 kg assorted spices, 578 kg porridge, 169 kg pasta, 130 kg soya mince, 65 kg soya chunks, 130 kg chilli bite mix, 504 packets of soup, 1679 litres cooking oil, 881 kg sugar, 257 kg cake flour, 79 kg biscuits, 310 litres juice, 550 loaves of bread, 100 bottles of peanut butter, 416 cans of jam, 881 kg sugar beans, 1208 canned beans, 76,350 tea bags, 524 litres milk, 310 tubes of toothpaste, 245 bars of bathing soap, 339 bars of toilet soap, 524 bars of washing soap, 474 matchboxes, 260 fabric shopping bags and 260 plastic buckets among 1148 families in various parts of South Africa in September and October. The centre also distributed fruits, vegetables, clothes, blankets and other necessaries among needy people in September.

Phoenix centre, along with its Johannesburg sub-centre, served cooked food to 530 persons, and distributed 280 packed lunches, 4450 kg rice, 950 kg maize meal, 200 kg cereals, 1670 kg wheat flour, 2690 kg pulses, 7540 kg assorted vegetables, 85 kg noodles, 200 kg assorted spices, 610 kg salt, 1470 litres cooking oil, 1590 cans of tinned food, 70 kg soup powder, 61,000 tea bags, 610 litres milk, 175 kg powdered milk, 80 kg pasta, 144 packets of peanuts, 450 boxes of sweetmeats, 1390 kg sugar, 9009 breakfast cereal sachets, 200 kg wheat porridge, 360 cakes, 1977 packets of biscuits, 86 packets of snacks, 84 kg bananas, 400 tubes of toothpaste, 900 matchboxes, 1200 clay lamps, 350 boxes of incense sticks, 1220 bars of soap, 480 adult napkins, 160 litres detergent, 100 saris, 200 shirts, 400 face masks and 1 wheelchair among 570 families in September.  The centre also provided a litre of milk and a loaf of bread each to 22 families thrice a week, and LP gas cylinders to 13 families.  The centre gave 100 sets of bedspreads to 50 patients and provided medical service to people.

Batticaloa sub-centre of the Colombo branch distributed 750 kg rice, 600 kg flour, 150 kg pulses, 15 kg soya chunks, 150 kg sugar and 30 kg nutrient powder among 150 families in Kandy district on 3 and 10 October.  The centre also gave 4 ceiling fans and a smart TV to two schools on 26 and 27 October.

Flood Relief

As floods triggered by torrential rains battered some parts of Kerala and West Bengal, the following centres carried out relief operations; details of the same are given below:

Kerala

Coimbatore Mission centre (in Tamil Nadu) distributed 466 blankets, 146 mats, 248 shirts, 249 dhotis, 232 ladies’ garments, 42 children’s garments, 456 bars of soap, 166 tubes of toothpaste and 466 toothbrushes among 250 families in Kottayam district, Kerala on 20 October.

Asansol centre served cooked food to 200 people in Asansol on 1 October.

Bajepratappur centre, Bardhaman, distributed 600 kg rice, 200 kg chira (rice flakes), 10 kg chanachur (a snack mix), 500 saris, 200 lungis, 500 face masks, 50 litres sanitizer and 500 bars of soap among 500 families in Purba Medinipur and Purba Bardhaman districts from 20 August to 8 October.

Belgharia centre, Kolkata, distributed 3924 kg muri (puffed rice), 7848 kg pulses, 1962 kg chickpeas, 1462 kg soya chunks, 3924 litres cooking oil, 785 kg assorted spices, 3924 kg sugar, 731 kg milk powder, 2,46,200 halogen tablets, 7848 bars of soap, 3924 saris and 3924 lungis among 3924 families in Paschim Medinipur district from 28 September to 1 October.

Chandipur centre served 1,31,994 plates of cooked food among the affected people, and distributed 26,192 kg chira and 5825 kg sugar among 5870 families in Purba Medinipur district from 27 September to 3 October.

Kamarpukur centre distributed 2000 kg chira, 350 kg sugar, 515 packets of biscuits and 100 saris among 1388 families in Hooghly district from 2 to 5 October.

Naora centre distributed 23,000 kg rice, 3150 kg pulses, 4050 kg potatoes, 100 kg soya chunks, 1670 litres cooking oil and 400 packets of biscuits among 4210 families in South 24 Parganas district from 26 September to 7 October.

Rahara centre distributed 4800 kg rice, 2400 kg chira, 1200 kg sugar, 2400 packets of biscuits, 1200 packets of baby food, 2400 bars of soap, 1200 mosquito nets and 1200 saris among 1200 families in South 24 Parganas district on 6 October.

Saradapitha centre, Belur, served cooked food to 7000 people in Howrah district from 2 to 5 October.

Disturbance Relief

Some parts of the country witnessed incidents of rioting and arson in October in which angry mobs targeted a minority community. In the wake of this man-made calamity, two of our centres extended a helping hand to the victims.  Details are as follows:

Dinajpur centre distributed 65 packets of biscuits, 65 saris, 65 blankets, 65 buckets and 65 mosquito nets among 65 families in Rangpur district on 22 October.

Rangpur centre distributed 600 kg rice, 150 kg pulses, 300 kg potatoes, 150 litres cooking oil, 150 kg salt, 150 kg muri, 150 kg chira, 150 kg sugar, 50 mosquito nets, 50 saris, 50 lungis and 50 sets of utensils (each containing a cooking pot, a dish, a glass and a frying pan) among 50 families in Rangpur district on 20 October.

Bagda: 550 saris, 500 lungis and 100 sets of children’s garments on 9 and 10 October.

Baranagar Math, Kolkata: 500 saris from 13 to 26 September.

Barasat: 987 saris and 33 dhotis from 3 to 12 October.

Barisha: 680 saris, 200 lungis and 40 dhotis from 1 to 10 October.

Belgharia, Kolkata: 100 saris on 6 October.

Bolpur: 1000 saris and 490 lungis from 1 to 9 October.

Chapra: 400 saris and 400 lungis from 15 September to 20 October.

Cossipore, Kolkata: 500 saris and 500 lungis on 25 and 26 September.

Dibrugarh: 500 saris, 500 lungis, 322 shirts and 178 trousers from 26 August to 3 October.

Digboi: 84 saris on 7 October.

Gadadhar Ashrama, Kolkata: 228 saris from 2 to 5 October.

Gourhati: 581 saris and 500 lungis from 22 September to 10 October.

Gurap: 600 saris, 525 lungis, 30 dhotis and 145 sets of assorted garments from 17 September to 4 October.

Guwahati: 337 saris on 6 October.

Jalpaiguri: 853 saris from 14 August to 6 October.

Jayrambati: 400 kg pulses, 200 litres cooking oil, 60 kg assorted spices, 200 bottles of hair oil, 200 bars of bathing soap, 200 bars of washing soap, 200 kg detergent powder, 200 saris, 200 napkins and 200 face masks on 20 September and 20 October.

Jhargram: 230 shirts, 52 tops, 303 saris, 198 lungis and 355 blankets from 3 to 10 October.

Kasundia, Howrah: 700 saris and 300 lungis in October.

Koyilandy: 50 saris on 13 October.

Manasadwip: 4000 saris from 22 September to 11 October.

Nabadwip: 811 saris, 500 lungis, 65 ladies’ garments, 86 gents’ garments and 40 dhotis from 2 to 10 October.

Naora: 1700 saris, 500 lungis and 500 dhotis on 6 and 7 October.

Narainpur: 58,500 packets of biscuits in September.

Puri Mission: 165 saris and 100 lungis on 13 and 25 October.

Raiganj: 300 saris and 400 lungis on 10 October.

Rajarhat Bishnupur: 350 saris and 200 lungis from 4 to 11 October.

Ramharipur: 500 saris, 500 lungis, 500 vests, 100 shirts, 150 dhotis, 60 napkins, 450 mosquito nets and 500 sets of children’s garments from 3 to 7 October.

Sinthi (Beni Pal Udyan) centre, Kolkata: 100 kg rice, 7 kg pulses, 8 kg gram, 7 litres cooking oil, 1 kg spices, 3 kg salt, 42 kg potatoes and 192 saris from 1 to 30 September.

Sohra (Cherrapunjee): 15,347 shirts, 7264 trousers and 2470 winter garments from 26 December 2020 to 14 March 2021.

Taki: 1110 saris, 550 lungis, 190 children’s garments, 360 towels, 45 mosquito nets, 218 solar lamps and 221 solar panels from 4 September to 12 October.

Tamluk: 200 saris from 26 to 30 September.

Vrindaban: 400 kg rice, 400 kg wheat flour, 100 kg pulses, 100 litres cooking oil, 200 kg salt, 100 kg sugar, 40 kg milk powder, 20 kg tea leaves, 200 bars of bathing soap and 200 bars of washing soap on 6 October.

Bagerhat: 425 saris, 190 lungis, 6 dhotis and 185 shirts from 7 to 17 October.

Baliati: 25 saris, 5 dhotis, 2 lungis, 101 assorted garments and 80 school bags from 11 to 24 October.

Dinajpur: 941 saris from 7 to 25 October.
