Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav: Imphal


Ramakrishna Mission, Babupara, Imphal, Manipur, observed the 75 years of Independence, ‘Azadi Ka Amrit Mahotsav’, dedicated to Swami Vivekananda, by organising Inter School Literary & Cultural competitions through their GAP units team at Kha Mamang Leikai, Ninghthoukhong, Bishnupur District and Seloi Nepali Basty, Upper Charhazare, Kangpokpi District.

First in the series of these events were Drawing & Essay Writing Competitions, which were held through the Ningthoukhong GAP Units on 31 July 2022, and again, on 7 August, Speech/Elocution and Cultural dance competitions were organised. The literary competitions were held in Manipuri & English languages. All the events were organised at the Kha Mamang Leikai Community Hall in which more than 200 students from 10 schools enthusiastically participated.
The Students participated in 3 different group categories. Group A – For classes 5 & 6, Group B – For Classes 7 & 8 and Group C – For Classes 9 & 10.
Themes for Drawing/Painting Competitions were: 1. Swami Vivekananda, 2. Battles of Manipur, 3. Historical Sites, Dances or Temples of Manipur, 4. Indigenous Sports of Manipur.
For Essay Writing (in Meetei Lon or English), the suggested topics were: 1. Life & Teachings of Swami Vivekananda, 2. Freedom Fighters of Manipur, 3. Cultural Heritage of Manipur, 4. How I see Manipur in 2047, 5. My idea of Patriotism.
Elocution & Speech competition was organised, in Manipuri & English. Topics for the speech competition were: 1. Life & Teachings of Swami Vivekananda, 2. How I see Manipur in 2047, 3. My idea of Patriotism, 4. Empowering women and the masses to build a better society, 5. Raising backward classes through education and culture.
In the second session, on 7 August 2022, an Inter-School Cultural Dance Competition was also held at Ningthoukhong Kha Mamang Leikai Community Hall, in which 5 Schools, namely, Pemton Devi English School, Ningthoukhong Sardar Patel High School, Ningthoukhong Hr. Sec School, Kritika Higher Secondary School, Bal Vidya Mandir, Ningthoukhong, along with a group of Students from Ramakrishna Mission Free Coaching Centre, Ningthoukhong, participated.

Similarly, on 8th August, 2022, Literary Competitions were organised at Seloi Hindi Jr. High School, through the GAP Project unit at Seloi Nepali Basty, Upper Charhazare, Kangpokpi District. More than 100 students, mostly from Nepali & Kuki Tribal communities, representing 8 schools, participated in essay writing, speech, and drawing competitions, for different categories in Group A (classes 5 & 6), Group B (Classes 7 & 8), and Group C (Classes 9 & 10).

For Drawing/Painting competition following themes 1. Swami Vivekananda, 2. Historical Sites / Scenic Hills of Manipur, 3. Indigenous Dances / Sports of Manipur, and, 4. ILL Effects of Climate change.For Essay Writing (in English/Hindi/Nepali/Thadou) the topics were 1. Life & Teachings of Swami Vivekananda, 2. Freedom Fighters of Manipur, 3. How I see Manipur in 2047, 4.  My idea of Patriotism, and, 5. Effects of Climate change on Hill dwellers.

Elocution & Speech competitions were held in English/Hindi/Nepali/Thadou languages on the following topics: 1. Life & Teachings of Swami Vivekananda, 2. How I see Manipur in 2047, 3. My idea of Patriotism, 4. Empowering women and masses to build a better society, and 5. Raising backward classes & tribal communities through education and culture.
