Bhoomi Puja for School Building: Jhargram, September 2024

Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Jhargram, West Bengal


On Sunday, September 1, 2024, a significant milestone was reached for the Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama in Jhargram. A bhoomi puja (groundbreaking ceremony) was held at the site of the proposed primary school in Srirampur sub-centre, coinciding with the sacred tithi puja of Swami Advaitanandaji Maharaj.

The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests, including Swami Natarajananda ji, Adhyaksha of Ramakrishna Math, Ghatshila; Swami Krishnanathananda, Editor of Udbodhan Patrika; Smt Kavita Ghosh, Chairperson of Jhargram Municipality; Smt Chinmoyee Marandi, Sabhapati of Jhargram Zilla Parishad; Managing Committee members; teachers from the local EMRS; devotees; and representatives from nearby villages.

The school, to be named “Ramakrishna Mission Vidyapith, Jhargram” by the Revered General Secretary Maharaj, Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math will be a co-educational English medium school affiliated with the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE). It will offer classes from Nursery to Class XII and will be housed in two separate buildings. The primary section is anticipated to commence operations in April 2025. In the future, hostel facilities for a limited number of boys will be added to accommodate students from distant areas.

The establishment of this school will address a long-standing need of the people of Jhargram district for a quality English medium education at an affordable cost.
