Distribution of Solar Lamps: Imphal, March ’23

On Sunday, 05 March 2023, Solar Lamps were distributed by the Ramakrishna Mission, Imphal, to the needy families at the Rajaimei Village under Willong Sub Division, Senapati District
Rajaimei is a more than 200 years old village & one of the remotest villages, inhabited by the Maram Naga Tribal community. Among other tribes, the Marams are the only tribal community of Manipur to be notified as a Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Group (PVTG) by the Govt. of India. There are only 2 PVTG classified communities in the whole North-Eastern region out of 75 such groups in the country.

Situated at around 80 Kms away from Imphal, and 20 kms from the nearest Senapati district town, it takes more than 3.5 hours to reach Rajaimei from Imphal. With only one Govt. Primary School and no health care centre, the parents have no other option but to send their kids to town areas for further education, which increases the cost of education manifold for them. Farming & forest produce being the only source of income for the villagers, they struggle a lot to bear the educational expenses of their children. Out of around 135 households only 65-70 families are residing in the village at present. The rest have moved out to town areas seeking more sustainable livelihood.

With the support of our well-wishers & sympathizers, the Ramakrishna Mission, Imphal, has been trying to provide some support for the betterment of the Maram community, especially at Rajaimei.
