Inauguration of Vivek Dwar at Ramakrishnapur, Howrah

A significant historical moment was commemorated on 18 February 2025 with the inauguration of “Vivek Dwar,” an archway erected at Ramakrishna Ghat road in Howrah. The archway marks the spot where Swami Vivekananda, accompanied by fellow disciples of Sri Ramakrishna, arrived on February 6, 1898 (Maghi Purnima), before proceeding to the house of Nabagopal Ghosh where he composed the pranam mantra of Sri Ramakrishna.

The inauguration ceremony was performed by Srimat Swami Gautamanandaji Maharaj, President of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission. Dignitaries present included Swami Bhajananandaji and Swami Girishanandaji (Vice-Presidents), Swami Suviranandaji (General Secretary), Swami Bodhasaranandaji and Swami Tattwavidanandaji (Assistant General Secretaries) of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, and Sri Arup Roy, Minister for Food Processing Industries and Horticulture, Government of West Bengal. Approximately 100 monks and brahmacharins from Belur Math and nearby centers, along with around 1000 devotees, attended the event.

Following the inauguration, a public meeting was held near Ramakrishnapur Ghat. Sri Arup Roy delivered the welcome address. Revered President Maharaj, Revered Vice-President Maharaj jis, and the Revered General Secretary Maharaj then addressed the assembled monks and devotees, highlighting the significance of the occasion and Swami Vivekananda’s enduring legacy. The “Vivek Dwar” stands as a lasting tribute to this historic event and serves as a reminder of Swami Vivekananda’s profound influence.
