Farmers’ Mela Promotes Sustainable Agriculture and Empowers Women in Ranchi
A regional Shriramkrishna Farmers’ Mela was held today in Bokda village, focusing on “Income Generation Through Natural Resource Management.” Organized jointly by the Divyayana Agricultural Science Center and the Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Research Institute, the event saw esteemed guests including Rajya Sabha MP Shri Aditya Sahu and MLA Shri Suresh Kumar Baitha.
Chief Guest Shri Sahu emphasized the importance of organic farming, encouraging farmers to leverage government schemes and reduce reliance on chemical fertilizers. He called upon the gathering to embrace sustainable practices and strive towards fulfilling the vision of Swami Vivekananda.
MLA Shri Baitha advocated for the construction of cold storage facilities in the region and improved transportation for school children. Additionally, Shri Vikas Kumar, Director of ‘OFAJ’, highlighted the Savitribai Phule scheme, which provides financial assistance of Rs. 40,000 to girls from class 8th to 12th.
Swami Bhaveshananda ji, Secretary of the Institute, underscored the vital role of farmers in the nation’s economic growth. He highlighted the challenges faced by farmers and urged the adoption of organic farming practices. Swami ji emphasized the interconnectedness of healthy soil, crops, and society.
The Mela saw the participation of around 2,000 farmers, with 798 entries showcasing a diverse range of crops, cottage industries, and livestock. Shri Pyarelal Mahto of Bagda was honored for his exceptional contributions to the agricultural sector. The event concluded with the distribution of prizes to 89 farmers, including first, second, and consolation prizes.
