The 45th Central Shri Ramakrishna Kisan Mela, a two-day event promoting sustainable agriculture, unfolded in Getalsud, Angara, on February 8th, 2024. The fair, organised by Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Education and Research Institute and Vivekananda Seva Sangh, Anagara, attracted enthusiastic participation.
The inauguration ceremony commenced with traditional lamp lighting and chants, emphasising the theme: “Healthy Soil, Healthy Crops, Clean Society – Only Achievable Through Natural/Organic Farming.” Esteemed guests included Swami Bhaveshananda (Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission Ashram), Smt. Nirmala Bhagat (Zilla Parishad President), Smt. Nisha Uranv (Director, Panchayati Raj), Shri Vikas Kumar (Sameti Director), and Dr. Sujay Rakshit (Director, Indian Institute of Bio-Agricultural Technology).
Swami Bhaveshananda welcomed the dignitaries with a shawl and a book by Swami Vivekananda. Chief guest Smt. Bhagat urged farmers to adopt the showcased technologies to conserve soil and water, boosting their income and production. Smt. Uranv emphasised preserving traditional practices and adopting organic methods for increased agricultural output. Shri Kumar applauded the organisers’ efforts in promoting organic farming and self-sufficiency among farmers. Dr. Rakshit encouraged farmers to emulate the displayed natural/organic farming model.
Swami Bhaveshananda, presiding over the programme, shared his vision of a healthy society built on healthy soil and crops nurtured through organic farming. He called upon farmers to view agriculture as their lifeblood and embrace sustainable practices for increased production and self-reliance.
The fair showcased 410 impressive crop samples, with 89 farmers receiving awards for outstanding displays. This event serves as a significant step towards a more sustainable and prosperous agricultural future in the region.
