The annual spiritual celebration and retreat conducted by the Vedanta Society of Northern California, San Francisco at its retreat at Olema in Marin County took place on Sunday, May 26, and Monday, May 27, 2024.
The May 26 program, in the morning, featured presentations by three members of the Vedanta Society congregation who each spoke on the topic “Surrender to God and Service to Humanity”, each presentation being followed by an opportunity for questions from the audience.
In the afternoon, after a brief meditation, a Bhajan music program was presented by our special guest, Swami Paritushtananda of the Vedanta center in Kansas City, Missouri.
On Monday, May 27, our guest speaker was Professor Michael Nagler, professor emeritus of classics and comparative literature at the University of California, Berkeley and the founder of the Blue Mountain Center of Meditation in Marin County. He spoke on the subject of “The Relevance of Vedanta for America Today”.
Also on Monday, May 27, Swami Tattwamayananda, the minister in charge of the Vedanta Society, presented a talk on the subject “From Religion to Spirituality”. Bobby Coleman, an eminent attorney and social activist from San Francisco presented a brief overview of the retreat program.
After a lunch offered to all 500 people who attended the program, the afternoon session featured a question and answer session with both speakers. The afternoon session was moderated by Richard Schimpf.
