Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda Cultural Centre, Shillong celebrated the National Youth Day on 12 January 2019.
On this occcasion, about 150 youth went on a procession carrying messages of Swami Vivekananda to the Raj Bhavan for an intimate interaction with hon’ble Governor Sri Tathagata Roy .
The procession started at 3:00 pm and the proceedings at Raj Bhavan started at 4:30 pm. Other events at Raj Bhavan included the inspirational speech by Swami Sarvabhutananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Shillong. Cultural programme, speech by a student and teacher was one of the attractions of the day.
Earlier at 10:30 the National Youth Day cum Birthday of Swami Vivekananda was marked by cutting of birthday cake by the Hon’ble Governor, in a function held at Ramakrishna Mission Vivekananda cultural centre premises. About 200 youth were present in the hall where Swami Vivekananda had delivered the last public lecture in 1901.
In his inspiring speeches, Hon’ble Governor called upon the youth to imbibe the spirit of Swamiji”s Universal teachings. He also stressed upon the fact that the spirit should be carried on throughout the year.
Swami Sarvabhutananda , too quoted Swami Vivekananda and said that even if one is not able to take up everything from Swami Vivekananda, one can just take up one idea. And that single idea too, if adopted intently into one’s life, it can change the nation.
Two representatives from the youth also shared their views appropriate to the occasion.
A blood donation camp was organised earlier in the morning by Ramakrishna Mission in collaboration with NEIGRIHMS hospital at 10 a.m. in which 36 persons approached and 29 donated blood and the rest 7 were deferred.
Monks and devotees offered flowers at the plaque of the House at Laban where Swamiji stayed during his visit to Shillong early morning around 7:30 am.
Volunteers of Vivekananda Cultural Centre had a mini Cleaning Drive, cleaning in and around Quinton Road, Jail Road and nook and corner of the institute on 11 Jan 2019 as a part of the celebration.
