On 12th January 2024, Ramakrishna Mission, Chengalpattu celebrated the National Youth Day with participation from the students of our school and from the public.
Our schools were decorated with flex banners and kolams (Rangoli). It started in the morning with Pushpanjali to Swamiji at his statue in the school. The Chief Guest in the morning session was the District Educational Officer (Secondary) of Chengalpattu District Sri S.K. Ravichandran. There was a meeting at the Girls’ School ground of the ashrama, where more than 3000 students attended.
There were elocution completion, recitation competition, essay competition and drawing competition in the days preceding the event. The prizes were distributed to the winners of these competitions. The winners of the elocution competitions also spoke on the occasion.
Addressing the students, a special talk was given by Sri S.Sivakumar, the Legal Advisor to the educational department of the Chengalpattu district. He explained to the students the value of true education as envisaged by Swamiji. Apart from him, the Chief Guest and the Secretary Swami also spoke. Sri S.Prabhakaran, Deputy Inspector of Schools, Chengalpattu Educational District also participated in the programme.
After the meeting, Sri S.Sivakumar flagged off the procession. The students, teachers of our school and Swamis went on a procession carrying the portrait of Swamiji through the streets of Chengalpattu, reaching finally at the Chengalpattu Railway Station.
In the Railway station, there are two plaques of Swami Vivekananda explaining his brief talk to the public at the station, who came to welcome Swamiji home after his historic Chicago lecture. These plaques were decorated with flowers. After an Arati to the Holy Trio, the headmaster of the Boys’ School of the ashrama, addressed the gathering of assembled students and the general public about the significance of the day. The procession ended back at the schools. At the end of the procession, the students were given refreshments.
