Jamtara Math celebrated its centenary on 1 November with special worship and inauguration of the newly built kitchen-cum-dining-hall block, named Shivananda Prasad Bhavan.
Sri Badal Patralekh, Agriculture Minister, Government of Jharkhand, participated as the chief guest in the workshop on farming held at Ranchi Morabadi Ashrama on 12 November.
On the occasion of its centenary, Gadadhar Ashrama conducted special worship and devotional music on 17 November.
The new dialysis unit at Kankhal Sevashrama was inaugurated on 19 November.
The annual convocation of RKMVERI (deemed university) was held on the university’s Belur campus on 26 November. Degrees and diplomas were awarded to 289 candidates from Belur, Narendrapur and Ranchi campuses of the university. Owing to the pandemic, most students attended the programme online. The General Secretary, who is also the Chancellor of the university, addressed the convocation through a recorded video.
The new multipurpose hall and dining-hall on the Nagachi campus of Ramanathapuram centre were inaugurated on 27 November. The campus is located at a distance of 15 km from Ramanathapuram town and lies on the way to Rameshwaram.
Delhi centre conducted 13 online workshops on values education from 30 October to 24 November. In all, 1024 teachers from different parts of India attended these workshops. It also held two webinars on the same subject on 27 and 28 October in which 111 principals and vice-principals took part.
Hyderabad Math conducted an online contest on the booklet The Ideal Woman on 15 November in which 6882 students from all over the country participated.
Durga Puja (in the image) was performed at Durban (South Africa) centre, Lusaka (Zambia) centre, Mauritius Ashrama, and 14 centres in Bangladesh, namely Baliati, Barisal, Chandpur, Chittagong, Comilla, Dhaka, Dinajpur, Faridpur, Habiganj, Jessore, Mymensingh, Narayanganj, Rangpur and Sylhet, and at the Narail sub-centre of Jessore Ashrama.
The new Vivekananda Hall at Dublin centre, Ireland, was inaugurated on 28 October.
We record with sorrow the passing away of two of our brother-monks.
Swami Satyasthananda (Swapan), head of Shimla centre, passed away suddenly on the evening of 7 November in a road accident. On the fateful day, he had gone to Ambala Cantonment railway station to catch a train to Lucknow but was met with an accident near the railway station. He was 63. Initiated by Swami Vireshwaranandaji Maharaj, he joined the order in 1984 at Shillong centre and received sannyasa diksha from Swami Bhuteshanandaji Maharaj in 1993. He served at the headquarters’ Law and Estate departments and at Shillong, Coimbatore Mission and Sikra-Kulingram centres as an assistant and at Silchar and Shimla centres as the head. He was also in charge of the Pre-probationers’ Training Centre (PPTC) at Belur Math for some years. A good sportsman in his pre-monastic days, he also had keen interest in music, and delighted in singing devotional songs and kirtans and in playing tabla and pakhawaj. Jovial and sociable by nature, he endeared himself to all who came in contact with him.
Swami Durgeshwarananda ji (Nirmal Maharaj) expired at Seva Pratishthan, Kolkata, on 30 November at 10 pm. He was 79 and had been suffering from various old-age ailments for the last few years. Initiated by Swami Nirvananandaji Maharaj, he joined the order in 1967 at Belur Math and received sannyasa diksha from Swami Vireshwaranandaji Maharaj in 1978. He served the order at Kamarpukur, Rahara, Chandigarh, Vrindaban, Kanpur and Barisha centres. Owing to his ill health, he was brought to Arogya Bhavan, Belur Math, a few days back. The swami was accommodative and amiable by nature.
