Residential Youth Camp : Vidyamandira, Belur Math

Celebrating the 150th Birth Anniversary of Sister Nivedita

Three-day Residential Youth Camp

The year-long celebrations of Sister Nivedita’s 150th birth anniversary found a fitting conclusion in the arrangement of a Three-day Residential Youth camp on 29 – 31 December 2018 at Ramakrishna Mission Vidyamandira, Belur Math. Attended by about 350 youth delegates, the camp was inaugurated on 29 December by Most Revered Srimat Swami Suvirananda ji Maharaj , the General Secretary of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission.

Apropos of Sister Nivedita’s relentless exhortation to manifest the power of unselfishness which she so aptly chose to symbolize by ‘Vajra’ (Thunderbolt), the daily routine of the camp was such as to enable the campers effortlessly enter into the life of caring and sharing, giving a wide berth to isolated selfish living. Including as the daily regime did such activities as morning and evening meditations, group discussions on topics related to character building & patriotism, listening to lectures by revered monks and invited speakers etc. , the campers truly breathed in an environment of discipline, holiness and edifying ideas of Swami Vivekananda and Sister Nivedita. In addition, students were greatly benefitted by the Question-Answer sessions held on 30 and 31 December.

The valedictory session on 31 December was presided over by Most Revered Srimat Swami Balabhadrananda ji Maharaj, the Assistant General Secretary of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission. The feedback shared by the campers on the last day spoke volumes of how enriching their camp experience had been!
