A two-day beekeeping seminar was organized by the National Bee Board at the Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra, Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, Morabadi, Ranchi. Held in conjunction with National Bee Day on 16 and 17 August, 2024, the seminar focused on the theme “Bees for Business: Effective Beekeeping Practices for FPOs and Farmers.”
Approximately 200 farmers, along with scientists and staff from Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Ramakrishna Mission Ashram, participated in the event.
The seminar featured expert speakers who provided valuable insights into the beekeeping industry. Sitakant Mandal ji, Regional Head of the Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), joined the program virtually to highlight the significant global demand for honey. He emphasized the importance of producing high-quality honey, proper packaging, and obtaining necessary registrations for successful exports. Mandal ji also outlined the membership benefits offered by APEDA to farmers interested in exporting their products.
M.S. Chauhan, a former assistant trainer at Divyayan Krishi Vigyan Kendra, shared his expertise on bee box maintenance and honey production. Vishal Dhote, an assistant teacher at RKMVERI, provided essential information on identifying and controlling bee diseases.
Farmers had the opportunity to share their experiences and challenges in beekeeping. Dr. Ajit Kumar Singh, Senior Scientist, presided over the seminar, while Dr. Rajesh Kumar, Scientist, served as the program coordinator.
