Summer Relief and Rehabilitation: Swami Vivekananda’s Ancestral House, Kolkata, Apr – Jun 2025

Ramakrishna Mission Swami Vivekananda’s Ancestral House, Kolkata


As part of its ongoing service to the underprivileged, Ramakrishna Mission Swami Vivekananda’s Ancestral House and Cultural Centre undertook summer relief, rehabilitation, and financial assistance initiatives in and around the Kolkata region from April to June 2025. The activities included distribution of essential items, support for livelihood generation, and humanitarian outreach to the elderly and distressed.

I. Summer Relief Distribution

  • Water Bottles (500 ml): 750 pieces
  • ORS (Oral Rehydration Solution): 1,500 sachets
  • Pulse Lozenges: 3,000 pieces
  • Amul Lassi: 750 packs

These items were distributed among pedestrians, daily labourers, and street dwellers to offer respite during the scorching summer months.

II. Livelihood & Rehabilitation Support

  1. Computer for Livelihood Education:
    An elderly woman was gifted a computer to teach underprivileged students and support herself through home-based education initiatives.
  2. Ramakrishna-Vivekananda Literature Distribution:
    Books and literature worth ₹10,000 were provided to a woman to sell on buses, trains, and in rural areas—enabling her to earn a living while spreading spiritual values.
  3. Sewing Machines:
    Two sewing machines were distributed to economically challenged individuals in Chowberia village, North 24 Parganas, to help them begin small tailoring businesses.

III. Ration Kit Distribution

A total of 13 elderly families, primarily individuals aged 80 to 85 years, residing in Naipur, Pataspur, and Bauria villages, were provided with 51 kg ration kits.
Each kit included:

  • Rice
  • Potatoes
  • Mustard Oil
  • Soybeans
  • Other essential items
