Swachha Bharat Abhiyan, Baranagar (July 2016)

Baranagore Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama High School arranged an intensive cleaning programme in the neighbouring locality on June 30, 2016 in accordance with the instruction given by the headquarters. More than 600 students of standards VIII, IX and X actively participated in the programme under the guidance of monastic members and  brahmacharies of the Ashrama and almost all the teaching and non teaching staff of the High School. Students and  teachers attended the school at 8.30 a.m. and the prayer having been over the programme was inaugurated by the undersigned at 9.00 a.m. with the hoisting of the flag of Ramakrishna Mission. The local Councillor also attended the inauguration ceremony.

Students of Standards IX and X were divided into four groups which carried out the cleaning programme at four different parts in the neighbouring locality. Five teachers accompanied each of the groups. Both the teachers and students swept the roads and lanes, removed garbage and scattered bleaching powder on both sides of the roads and lanes. The Headmaster of the High School himself accompanied by a number of senior teachers of the High School supervised the entire programme and themselves took part actively in sweeping the roads. The students of standard VIII worked inside the Ashrama premises in five groups under the supervision of 10 teachers. They cleaned the class rooms, swept each and every corner of the premises and cleaned the toilets, too. After the completion of the main course of cleaning a programme was held in the Prayer Hall where the Assistant Headmaster along with several teachers and students addressed an audience of all the monks, teachers and students participated in the programme and discoursed about the significance of the programme. All the participants were provided with breakfast and lunch by the High School. The programme came to an end at around 2.00 p.m.

The enthusiasm of all the participants created a great sensation in the locality and the local people got much inspired at the sight of the monks, brahmacharies, teachers and small students working together with the view to making a cleaner surrounding. Hope the programme will render an impetus to the local grownups in their effort of keeping the environment clean. Baranagar Municipality and Baranagar Police Station actively cooperated with the Ashrama in this noble endeavour.
