A symposium on ‘Personality Development – Vivekananda Way’ was successfully conducted for teachers and college students on 26 and 27 November 2017 respectively at Vivekananda Vidya Vihar, Ramakrishna Mission, Sitanangaram from 09:00 am to 04:30 pm.
250 teachers from 27 institutions of seven districts participated in the teachers’ symposium. Swami Sashikantananda, Secretary, Ramakrishna Mission, Vijayawada, Swami Gunakarananda, Ramakrishna Mission Saradapitha, West Bengal, Ms. K. Sandhya Rani, IPoS, Commissioner of School Education, Andhra Pradesh and Dr. T. Shashi, Asst. Professor, National Institute of Biological Sciences, Bangalore addressed the assembled teachers followed by panel discussions.
330 students from eight different colleges participated in the youth symposium. Swami Gunakarananda and Dr. T. Sashi guided the assembled students through talks and panel discussions.
After going through the book ‘Personality Development’, a compilation of Swami Vivekananda’s thoughts on the subject published by Advaita Ashrama and supplied by us, participants submitted write-ups based on the book. 20 best write-ups were selected for each symposium and the selected participants were invited to give a short talk on the subject. Based on the write-up and the talk, prize winners were selected. Prizes worth Rs.27,000/- consisting of books and cash were distributed among the winners in each symposium.
Participants involved deeply in the panel discussions and they were very enthusiastic. They felt that such symposia should be conducted often to spread Swamiji’s ideas.
