Unveiling of Statue of Sister Nivedita, Salem, Tamil Nadu, January 2018

Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Salem, unveiled a statue of Sister Nivedita in connection with Sister Nivedita’s 150th Birth Anniversary Celebration, on Friday 5th January 2018.

A procession of sadhus, devotees, committee members & others led by a Band party of School Students marched from the Ashrama to the Dispensary, around 9 am. After that, with the blowing of conches and Veda Parayana, the 7 foot tall fibreglass statue of Sister Nivedita was unveiled by Swami Tattwavidananda Maharaj, Asst. General Secretary, Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math.

Sri N. Krishnamoorti, Editor, Viveka Vani, Vivekananda Kendra, Kanyakumari delivered Special Address for one hour and Dr. V.Iraianbu IAS, delivered Keynote address for one hour.

Swami Yogirajananda and Sri P.S.Sundarrajan, Lecturer in Tamil Nadu Govt. Music College, Chennai sang songs on Sister Nivedita.

Swami Tattwavidananda Maharaj gave the presidential address.

Total 1400 students and devotees attended the program. Lunch prasad was served to all.

It may be pointed out that Sister Nivedita visited Salem on 5 Jan 1903 along with Swami Sadananda, a disciple of Swami Vivekananda & Br.Amulya (who later became Swami Sankarananda, 7th President of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math) and gave a series of lectures in Salem. She also visited Dharmapuri which was part of then Salem District.
