In memory of Swamiji’s stay in Chennai for 9 days (February 06 – 14) after his visit from the West is celebrated as Vivekananda Navaratri every year at Ramakrishna Math, Chennai. This year also, Vivekananda Navaratri was celebrated on all nine days (six days in Illam and three days in the Math). Many Senior Monks, eminent personalities including Padma Vibhushan Sri. K. Parasaran (Senior Advocate) participated and addressed the gathering on Swamiji and His teachings. Also there were many cultural programs including Bhajans by Leading Carnatic singers & Students, Stage plays, Harikatha, Thematic Dance-Drama, etc. On weekdays average 200 persons participated and on weekends 450 persons participated. All were given prasad on all nine days.Â
All nine days, more than 2500 students of various schools and colleges in and around Chennai visited Vivekanandar Illam. Students visited the museum and various shows. Each day a Swami addressed the students on teachings of Swamiji. All were given light refreshments and complementary books on Swamiji.
