This year the winter was severe in this part of the state around Chennai and rural districts. Also, Cyclone Mandous crossed the coast near Chennai which brought copious rains to Chengalpattu, Kanchipuram, Chennai, and Thiruvallur districts.
Many people needed assistance and Ramakrishna Mission Students’ Home, Chennai served 620 poor scheduled tribe (Irula) families in 14 villages/hamlets – Devaneri, Poovalambedu, Pathirivedu, Gandhinagar, Sedhilpakkam, Bommachikulam, Kaniyambakkam, Thathamanji, Keelapudi, Thaikandikai, Pannur, Kamavar Palayam, Vaanamalli and Kunthiramedu – in Thiruvallur district by providing 1000 nos. of blankets (fleece type) and 300 nos. of tarpaulin sheets for their thatched roof huts, wherever needed.
