A Brief Report of Recent Relief Services as on 1 March 2018

 

WINTER RELIEF

 

A total of 58,133 blankets and 2,07,418 winter garments are being distributed by 108 of our centres, among poor people affected by winter, flood, fire etc. in different parts of the country.

 


CYCLONE REHABILITATION

 

Tamil Nadu and Kerala: In response to the damage caused by Cyclone Ockhi, Chennai Math and Thiruvananthapuram centres conducted primary relief service from 3 to 11 December by distributing 25 tons of dry food materials in Kanyakumari and Thiruvananthapuram districts respectively.

In the aftermath of the cyclonic winds and torrential rains brought in by the cyclone, severe damage to houses was reported in the Kanyakumari district. After completing the primary relief, the Chennai Math determined the need for a rehabilitation service and distributed 5170 asbestos sheets and 1480 roof tiles among 620 cyclone affected families from 15 January to 15 February.

 


FIRE RELIEF 

 

Arunachal Pradesh: In response to an accidental fire in Siyom village on 10 January, Aalo centre distributed 17 blankets, 4 sets of utensils, 6 shirts, 6 trousers, 2 tops, 8 jackets, 8 sweaters and stationery items among 4 affected families on 16 January.

 

 


ECONOMIC REHABILITATION

Zambia: Our newly started Lusaka centre distributed 2 sewing machines on 7 February.

 

DISTRESS RELIEF

 

(a) In the present period, new adult garments donated to us by ITC Ltd. were distributed among the poor and needy under the Garments Distribution Programme. ITC Ltd. has donated nearly 3.92 lakh garments and 0.61 lakh other items (2,43,053 shirts/T-shirts, 1,48,595 trousers, 40,738 belts/wallets, 7843 school bags, 1000 pairs of socks and 11,041 shoes) to 78 of our branch centres. Distribution is underway.

 

 

(b) To extend a helping hand to poor and needy people, 12 of our centres in different parts of the country have distributed 10,324 saris, 474 dhotis, 100 kg wheat flour, 250 kg dal, 100 kg dalia (broken wheat), 100 kg suji (semolina), 100 kg edible oil, 25 kg garlic, 54 packets of biscuits, 33 plates, 33 tumblers, 92 solar lights, 3850 notebooks,  2525 pens, 1450 pencils, 1325 erasers, 725 sharpeners, 125 scales, 125 crayon boxes and 125 geometry boxes among poor and needy people during the month of February.
