CYCLONE RELIEF
Odisha: A very severe Cyclonic Storm ‘Titli’ hit the coastal regions of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha on 11 October. In response to the calamity, Bhubaneswar centre distributed 1600 saris, 1400 dhotis, 200 lungis, 600 shirts, 300 trousers, 500 blankets, 600 towels, 500 mosquito-nets and 1500 packets of biscuits among 800 families in remote villages of Gajapati district from 20 October to 3 November.
Tamil Nadu: In the wake of the devastating cyclone ‘Gaja’, which severely affected several districts of the state, Chennai Math commenced relief work by serving more than 62,000 plates of cooked food (sambar rice, pongal, etc.) to affected people in Nagai and Thiruvarur districts from 18 to 22 November.
WINTER RELIEF: This year, 56,661 blankets and 1,21,212 winter garments are being distributed among the poor and needy people, through 105 of our branch centres in different parts of the country.
FLOOD RELIEF
Kerala: Our centres continued relief operations among the families affected by the devastating floods that had hit the state in the month of August. In response to the grim situation, our Coimbatore Math, Coimbatore Mission, Haripad, Kalady, Kayamkulam, Kochi, Koyilandy, Kozhikode, Pala, Thrissur and Tiruvalla centres conducted primary flood relief services by distributing 158 tons of dry food materials, 67,332 garments, 7500 utensil sets, 11.15 lakh assorted educational materials along with other necessary items such as bedsheets, towels, mats, school bags and umbrellas among nearly 25,000 flood-affected families and more than 50,000 students in Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kannur, Kottayam, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad, Pathanamthitta, Thrissur and Wayanad districts.
