Covid Relief Services by Ramakrishna Mission Jhargram


Ramakrishna Mission Jhargram conducted a Blood donation camp on 31 April 2021; is providing Ambulance Service to Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited since 01 May 2021; conducting a COVID Awareness programme since 10 May 2021 and distributed ration kits on 10 May 2021 and from 4 – 6 June 2021; serving cooked food since 12 May 2021 to the home-quarantined COVID positive patients.

The centre distributed 610 kg rice, 410 kg Dal , 40 kg Cumin Powder, 40 kg Chili Powder, 40 kg Turmeric Powder, 210 Ltrs. Mustard Oil, 410 kg Sugar, 402 kg Ata, 20 kg Tea Leaf, 211 kg Soyabean, 210 Pkts Biscuit, 201 kg Salt, 400 Pcs Lifebuoy soap , 5kg Muri, 300 Pcs Face Shield, 300 Pcs N95 Mask, 15 kg Sanitizer, 10 mosquito nets, 85 Sarees, and 309 Lungis among 330 families in Jhargram District from 1 to 20 June 2021.

The centre served 2559 plates of cooked food in Jhargram town from 1 June to 25 June for corona patients in home isolation.

Cooked Food for corona patients in home isolation

The Jhargram centre is distributing cooked food to corona patients in home isolation, twice a day, besides purchasing medicines, groceries, fruits, etc. for them and offering any other help required by these families/individuals. This service started on 12 May 2021 and as of 10 June 2021, 2300 meals were served.

Distribution of grocery items to poor families

The Jhargram centre distributed grocery kits to 200 poor families in Jhargram and Binpur towns from4 -6 June 2021.

They Jhargram centred distributed grocery kits to 50 families. Each kit consists of 5 kg rice, 2 kg dal, 1 saree, 1 mosquito net, 1 reusable mask and 50 ml hand sanitiser.

Distribution of safety kits to Toto Drivers

A safety kit containing a face shield, N 95 mask and sanitiser along with a lungi was given to 300 Toto drivers of Jhargram town, Binpur and Lodhasuli areas from June 1 to 3.

Ambulance Service

Bharatiya Reserve Bank Note Mudran Private Limited (BRBNMPL), Salboni, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Reserve Bank of India (RBI) had sent an SOS to Jhargram ashrama to lend their ambulance as close to 60-70 of their staff and family members were afflicted with Corona. Accordingly, the Ashrama provided its ambulance for the use of BRBNMPL to transport its serious patients from Salboni to hospitals in Kolkata. The ambulance is in their service from 1 May 2021 till date.

Covid Awareness Programme and Distribution of Ration Kits

As of 10 June 2021, the Jhargram centre has reached more than 1500 people living in 17 villages and 3 wards of Jhargram town.

The Ashrama conducted an awareness program, where Dr Sumangal Bose spoke on Covid – precautions, treatment and necessity of taking vaccines to 50 poor families living in two localities in the heart of Jhargram town on 10 May 2021.

Blood Donation Camp

The corona pandemic has severely affected the availability of blood all over India. The pre-occupation of the hospitals with corona patients, fear in the minds of blood donors,  vaccination (people who are vaccinated can donate blood only after 28 days, now reduced to 14 days from 6 May)  other issues have led to the severe shortage of blood all over the country. On the urgent request of the West Bengal Voluntary Blood Donors Forum, Ramakrishna Mission Ashrama, Jhargram organized a Blood Donation camp on its campus on 30 April 2021 following all Covid related protocols. 71 people including 20 staff of the Ashrama and one monastic member donated blood.
