Activities 2021-22: Relief And Rehabilitation Services

Relief and Rehabilitation Services by Ramakrishna Mission in 2021-22

The Ramakrishna Mission conducted several relief and rehabilitation operations during the year. The total expenditure incurred on these was Rs. 19.19 crore. In all, 11,23,101 people of 3,37,629 families in 4597 villages were benefitted. Details of some major operations are given below:

These apart, Kadapa centre started tele-consultation service on 17 May and made available services of a panel of doctors to patients suffering from Covid-19 and other diseases. Also, Visakhapatnam centre distributed 18,300 cups of tea & coffee and 16,100 packets of biscuits among the doctors and nurses at a government hospital and gave a number of essential surgical equipment to a hospital in Vizag during the above period. 46 villages, 2067 families, 3640

2 Arunachal Pradesh

Aalo centre conducted awareness camps in and around Aalo. Itanagar hospital opened a vaccination centre and a 19-bed triage ward for suspected Covid patients. The centre’s ambulance was used to transfer Covid patients to other hospitals. The centre also conducted Rapid Antigen Tests and CT scanning on Covid patients. 4 villages

Distributed 4586 kg rice, 3900 kg flour, 7030 kg pulses, 2165 kg soya chunks, 3433 litres cooking oil, 4840 kg salt, 600 kg sugar, 859 kg assorted spices, 9882 kg potatoes, 3394 kg onions, 224 litres milk, 1020 kg milk powder, 6748 packets of biscuits, 125 kg tea leaves, 36 litres fruit juice, 74 kg candies, 12,992 bars of soap, 1291 hand sanitizer bottles, 397 kg detergent powder, 17,630 face masks, 50 lungis and 50 umbrellas. Also, Digboi & Karimganj administered vaccination to 1694 people.   75 villages,

5 Chhattisgarh (Dt. Narainpur) Conducted an awareness campaign and distributed 30 bars of soap, 474 face masks, sanitizer bottles, etc among the villagers. Besides, it conducted a few vaccination camps and ran testing centres where a total of 1276 persons were vaccinated and 149 persons were tested. 5 villages,

Served 30,605 plates of cooked food and supplied 200 face masks, 100 PPE kits, 30 Pulse Oximeters and medicines to 4 Covid Care Centres. The centre also distributed five 5-litre Oxygen Concentrators and 16 ten-litre Oxygen Concentrators to four institutions providing Covid care and distributed 125 LED projectors among as many Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya schools to enable them to provide online education. 2 villages,

Distributed 24,500 kg rice, 310 kg chira (flattened rice), 35,250 kg flour, 10,505 kg pulses, 5950 kg jowar (sorghum), 6641 litres cooking oil, 100 kg salt, 10,480 kg sugar, 1295 kg assorted spices, 6000 kg potatoes, 7000 kg onions, 2580 kg semolina,50 kg jaggery, 150 packets of biscuits, 318 kg tea powder, 8960 bars of bathing soap, 4910 bars of washing soap, 100 tubes of toothpaste, 659 battery cells and 760 vitamin tablets. These apart, Belagavi and Shivanahalli centres distributed 369 Pulse Oximeters, 20 steamers, 8 Oxygen Concentrators, 9 thermometers and 300 medicine kits. Shivanahalli centre also conducted vaccination awareness campaigns among 3000 villagers. 32 villages,

The centre provided accommodation to 3 doctors & 4 para-medical staff working at a Covid centre. 3 villages,

13 Maharashtra

(Dt. Aurangabad, and Mumbai)

Aurangabad centre distributed 881 food packets. Mumbai centre treated 51 Covid patients at its hospital. In the Covid testing facility run by Mumbai Corporation at Mumbai centre 22,650 patients were tested from 8 May to 5 March. Also, in the free vaccination centre run by the same Corporation on the ashrama campus a total of 48,730 doses were administered. 44 villages,

Sohra (Cherrapunjee) centre distributed 2,65,300 kg rice and 53,060 kg pulses. Shillong centre provided space in its dispensary for vaccinating the general public. A total of 4677 people were vaccinated during the period from April to March. 424 villages,

Served lunch and dinner to patients, attendants and doctors at a government-run Covid care centre in Khetri from 17 May to 11 June. The centre also provided 25 oxygen cylinders and 700 medicine kits to a government hospital in Khetri. 1 village
17 Tamil Nadu

(Dt. Chengalpattu, Chennai, Coimbatore,   Dharmapuri, Kanchipuram, Nilgiris, Salem and Tiruppur)

Served 42,165 plates of cooked food, and distributed 28,725 kg rice, 8660 kg flour, 11,173 kg pulses, 1506 kg gram, 750 kg fried gram, 6326 litres cooking oil, 2934 kg salt, 4100 kg sugar, 2721 kg assorted spices, 800 kg vermicelli, 4550 kg semolina, 500 kg tamarind, 1000 packets of an immunity booster mixture, 190 packets of biscuits, 2550 bars of bathing soap, 2350 bars of washing soap, 1550 tubes of toothpaste, 5000 face masks and 1000 hand sanitizer bottles. Chengalpattu centre, along with Chennai Math and Salem centres gave 55 Pulse Oximeters, 50 digital thermometers, a wheelchair, a stretcher, 150 cots (with all accessories like mattresses, pillows, pillow covers and bedspreads), 10 infrared thermometers, 60 face shields and 500 hand sanitizer bottles to 2 hospitals. Chennai Students’ Home and Chennai Math jointly distributed 2867 Covid-care kits (each kit containing a pulse oximeter, a vaporizer, a digital thermometer, face masks, a bottle of hand sanitizer, a bar of soap, packets of immunity booster mixtures and tablets) to Covid patients quarantined at their homes and 1030 vapour inhalers and 1030 steel flasks among Covid frontline workers in several hospitals in Chennai. Coimbatore Mission centre distributed immunity-boosting homeopathy medicine among 13,872 people and also set up a 300-bed isolation centre for asymptomatic Covid patients in which 520 patients were treated. Further, Salem centre handed over 90 glucometers, 10 digital BP apparatuses, 533 oxygen masks, 50 oxygen-flow meters, 100 endotracheal tubes, 50 CPAP paediatric masks, 50 BP paediatric cuffs, 100 paediatric nasal prongs, 4 vein detectors, 2 height measuring scales, 5 laryngoscopes, 10 paediatric weighing machines, 20 infrared thermometers, 2 washing machines, 2 hydro extractors, a tumbler dryer and 2 SS soap soda storage tanks to 3 government hospitals in Salem. 222 villages,

Served 2133 packets of cooked food to footpath dwellers and distributed 4170 kg rice, 510 kg chira (flattened rice), 1180 kg pulses, 670 kg soya chunks, 221 litres cooking oil, 765 kg salt, 520 kg sugar, 63 kg assorted spices, 810 kg potatoes, 600 kg onions, 120 litres milk, 102 kg milk powder, 330 packets of biscuits, 63 kg tea leaves, 4800 multivitamin capsules, 570 bars of bathing soap, 105 bars of washing soap, 105 tubes of toothpaste, 420 face masks and 120 dhotis. Further, Viveknagar centre arranged vaccination for 329 persons and took up a project of sanitizing the local market area at Amtali jointly with the Agartala Municipal Corporation. 14 villages,

19 Uttar Pradesh

(Dt. Kanpur Nagar, Lucknow, Mathura,  Prayagraj and Varanasi)

Distributed 1550 kg rice, 2800 kg flour, 620 kg pulses, 265 kg soya chunks, 310 litres cooking oil, 310 kg salt, 60 kg sugar, 30 kg assorted spices, 6 kg tea powder, 60 packets of biscuits, 60 bars of bathing soap, 60 kg detergent powder and 60 tubes of toothpaste. Lucknow centre opened a Covid ward in its hospital where 46 patients were treated between 21 January and 25 February. The centre also installed a new oxygen plant on 1 May and provided free oxygen supply as well as other medical care to Covid patients in and around Lucknow. Varanasi Home of Service ran a 48-bed Covid ward for patients from 17 April to 3 June. The centre also ran a free vaccination centre in which 32,003 persons received vaccination. Vrindaban centre reserved 160 beds for Covid patients in its hospital. A total of 422 patients were admitted to the hospital and 1477 patients were treated in the OPD from 2 April to 24 May. The hospital also ran a vaccination centre where 1845 doses were administered. 17 villages,

Distributed 3800 kg rice, 3800 kg flour, 760 kg pulses, 95 kg soya chunks, 760 litres cooking oil, 380 kg salt, 1900 kg sugar, 152 kg assorted spices, 95 kg milk powder, 114 kg tea leaves, 760 bars of soap, 380 bars of washing soap, 380 kg washing powder, 380 toothbrushes, 380 tubes of toothpaste, 2280 face masks, 38 litres hand sanitizer and some necessary medicines. Further, the centre converted its eye hospital into a Covid care centre with 33 beds and started a 27-bed Covid care centre at Agastyamuni town. Also, the centre ran a vaccination centre where a total of 23,704 people received vaccination. Our Kankhal Sevashrama ran a 150-bed dedicated Covid ward and treated 1150 patients. 21 villages,

Asansol centre sanitized 5 Covid-affected localities and 500 residential premises in Paschim Bardhaman district and Raiganj centre sanitized a few important public areas in Raiganj. Our Jhargram centre’s ambulance was utilized for taking patients to hospitals. Malda centre provided 21 oxygen cylinders to Covid patients. Telemedicine service was also provided by the centre to 24 persons from 1 to 30 May. These apart, our Malda, Saradapitha, Seva Pratishthan and RKMVERI, Belur, in cooperation with two other organizations conducted Covid vaccination drives and organized camps where a total of 11,850 people received vaccination. Furthermore, Narendrapur centre started a safe home for Covid patients on 28 May; Saradapitha centre ran a 50-bed Covid care centre where 13 patients were treated and also an RT-PCR testing centre in which 272 tests were conducted. Seva Pratishthan centre also started a 127-bed Covid facility and Jayrambati centre gave homeopathic medicine to about 800 families. 179 villages,

Winter Relief: A total of 63,459 blankets and 8112 winter garments were distributed among the needy people through 77 centres in India.

Economic Rehabilitation:

The following centres carried out the following rehabilitation activities:

  1. Bhubaneswar: Installed a pump set in Tihidi village in Bhadrak district.
  2. Jayrambati: Reconstructed a house of a poor family in Bankura.
  3. Khetri: Distributed 50 sewing machines, built a toilet block at a government school in Khetri.
  4. Kozhikode: Repaired the roof of a house of a poor family in Puthyukode village of Kozhikode district.
  5. Malda: Reconstructed the roof of a house at Muchia village in Malda district.
  6. Mumbai: Built a well for drinking water at Shiroshi village and installed a solar-based drinking water system at Kalmavihira village, both in Palghar district.
  7. Rahara: Distributed 2 sewing machines, a cycle rickshaw and 3 rickshaw-vans.
  8. Ranchi Morabadi: Set up 12 drinking water plants in Ranchi district, of which 10 are located in villages, 1 each in a slum and on the centre’s campus.
  9. Salem: Provided 2 couches, an orthopaedic OT table, a negative pressure wound therapy machine, 4 stretchers, 2 desktop computers, 2 water dispensers, an autoclave machine and an anaesthesia machine to a government hospital and two primary health centres in Salem.

Cyclone Rehabilitation:

  1. Cyclone Bulbul: Belgharia centre built 18 two-room houses, 1 coaching centre and 38 washrooms in the Sundarbans area of South 24 Parganas district, and provided building materials for the construction of 4 houses.

Cyclone Amphan:

Belgharia centre constructed a multipurpose relief shelter cum non-formal education centre at Kaikhali in South 24 Parganas district.

Manasadwip centre provided 40 bags of cement, 62 iron bars, 10 kg binding wire, 1000 bricks, 140 cubic feet stone, 240 cubic feet red sand and 100 cubic feet white sand to a poor family in Manasadwip to reconstruct their house.

Saradapitha centre, Belur, constructed two multipurpose relief shelter-cum-non-formal education centres at Abhirampur and Jangalpur villages in Howrah district.

Cyclone Yaas: Contai centre provided 6000 bricks, 100 bags of cement, 420 cubic feet sand, 50 cubic feet stone chips and 35 iron bars to a poor person at Ariakhali in Purba Medinipur district to reconstruct his damaged house.


Relief and Rehabilitation Services by Ramakrishna Math in 2021-22

The Ramakrishna Math conducted several relief and rehabilitation operations during the year. The total expenditure incurred on these was Rs. 7.01 crore. In all, 4,69,459 people of 1,43,644 families in 1869 villages were benefitted. Details of some major operations are given below:

Our Thiruvananthapuram centre ran a round-the-clock Rapid Antigen Testing centre and RT-PCR sample collection centre since June 2020, where 12,564 Rapid Antigen Tests and 7404 RT-PCR tests were done from 1 January to 28 June. Also, the centre provided treatment to 155 Covid patients at its hospital, set up two isolation wards with 25 beds for triage and arranged 60 rooms & 40 beds for the treatment of Covid patients. Further, the centre ran a vaccination centre where 6884 doses of vaccine were administered from 1 February to 19 June. Koyilandy centre distributed 3232 notebooks, 1212 pens and 404 geometry boxes among 404 students of six primary schools in Koyilandy between 2 and 6 July. Thiruvalla centre sanitized 87 homes, 6 shops and 2 clinics in Thiruvalla municipal area, distributed provision kits to 25 Covid-affected families and homeopathy medicines among 250 persons. The centre also donated 10 Pulse Oximeters to Thiruvalla Municipality. Kayamkulam centre started a Covid care centre at its students’ hostel and accommodated 600 patients. 49 villages,

In addition, Bolpur centre maintained an oxygen bank with 14 cylinders and flow meters and also lent its ambulance along with four oxygen cylinders to the Bolpur Municipality for its use in fighting the pandemic and arranged a modest safe home to accommodate the volunteers infected with Covid.
