A Brief Report of Recent Relief Services as on 1 June 2018

FIRE RELIEF

Arunachal Pradesh: In the wake of a major fire in the New Market in Aalo, West Siang district on 16 May, in which 41 houses were burned down, Aalo centre distributed 60 ladies’ trousers, 60 ladies’ T-shirts, 85 T-shirts, 85 trousers, 145 jackets, 145 blankets and 41 sets of utensils (each set containing a karahi, a pot, a kettle, a bucket, 4 plates, 4 bowls, a ladle, a jug, a tumbler, a mug and a tea pan) among 41 families on 27 May. 

 

Assam: In response to a fire accident at Bishfuti road in Silchar in which 14 houses were gutted, Silchar Ashrama distributed 25 dhotis, 22 shirts, 22 trousers, 11 salwar-kameez (ladies’ garments), 22 saris, 20 mosquito-nets, 12 kg milk powder, 44 packets of biscuits and 14 stoves among 14 families on 23 May.  

 

DISTRESS RELIEF

(i) To extend a helping hand to poor and needy people, 12 of our centres in different parts of the country have distributed 1354 dhotis, 2789 shirts, 1277 T-shirts, 1535 trousers, 2885 saris, 1396 ladies’ shirts, 811 ladies’ trousers, 1210 tops, 255 leggings, 151 other ladies’ garments, 484 belts, 809 school bags, 460 kg rice, 100 kg dal, 115 litres of edible oil, 230 kg salt, 46 kg milk powder, 23 kg tea leaves, 230 bathing soaps, 230 washing soaps, 230 packets of washing powder, 3000 notebooks, 1500 pens, 1500 pencils and 750 geometry boxes among poor and needy people during the month of May. 

 

(ii) In the current year (2017-18), new adult garments donated to us by ITC Ltd. were distributed among the poor and needy under the Garments Distribution Programme. ITC Ltd. has donated nearly 4.17 lakh garments and 0.65 lakh other items (2,59,132 shirts/T-shirts, 1,58,172 trousers, 41,393 belts/wallets, 941 school bags, 1000 pairs of socks and 11,262 shoes) to 87 of our branch centres. Distribution is underway.
