Kalady: COVID-19 Pandemic Relief Services


In the wake of complete lock-down of the country due to the alarming COVID-19 pandemic, Sri Ramakrishna Advaita Ashrama, Kalady, Kerala is continuing its relief services.

On 16 May 2020, the centre distributed 136 relief kits to the autorickshaw drivers of Kalady Bus Stand, Kalady-Perumbavoor Road and Kalady-Kanjoor Road and 4 most needy families of Ashrama Road. View Album in Google Photos

On 11 May 2020, the centre distributed to 225 tribal families of Thattekkannan colony, Nellippara Colony, Chattupara Colony under the Adimaly Range of Munnar Forest Division, Idukki district. View Album in Google Photos

On 01 May 2020, ration kits were distributed to 135 tribal families in the forest regions of Kottakkavala Laksham Veedu Colony, Varikkamattom and Valliyadi Bhagom Colony areas under the Thodupuzha Forest Range, Idukki district.  View Album in Google Photos

On 30 April 2020, the ashrama distributed ration kits to 135 families in Poomala, Koovakandam, Meathotty, Thadiyanal, Malayincy and Peringassery areas under the Thoodupuzha forest range and another 6 families of Kalady. View Album in Google Photos

On 22 April 2020, the ashrama distributed ration kits to 72 porters (daily wage-earners) of Kalady Junction. Another 10 most needy families in Piraroor near Mattoor was also given the kits.

On 19 April 2020, the ashrama distributed ration kits to 120 tribal families under the Neriamangalam Forest Range.

On 18 April 2020, monks and volunteers of the ashrama distributed ration kits to 100 tribal families in Elamblasseri under the Neriamangalam Forest Range.

On 17 April 2020, monks and volunteers of the ashrama distributed ration kits to 50 tribal families in Thattekkadu and Neriamangalam villages of Kothamangalam taluk in Ernakulam district.

On 16 April 2020, monks and volunteers of the ashrama visited Mullaringadu and Vellakkayam, thick forest regions in the Idukki the district under the Forest Division of Kothamangalam and distributed relief kits to 52 tribal/Adivasi families.

Each ration kit contains : Rice 5 Kg, Dal 1 Kg, Potato 5 Kg, Onion 5 Kg, Oil 2 ltrs, Salt 1 Kg, Chilly Powder 1 Kg, Coriander Powder 1 Kg, Soaps 3 pcs, Washing Powder 1 Kg, Lyzol 500 ml, mask 3 pcs.

The team was accompanied and supported by the Forest Officers under the Kothamangalam Forest Division.



On 7 April 2020, the ashrama distributed ration kits in Mazhuvannoor Panchayat to 30 people of Nedumala Harijan colony.

On 4 April 2020, the ashrama covered 8 wards of the Kalady Panchayat, viz. Ward 1 (Marottichodu), Ward 2 (Pothiyakkara), Ward 5 (Thottakam), Ward 7 (Manickamangalam North), Ward 12 (Kaippattoor), Ward 14 (Mattoor South), Ward 15 (Piraroor) and Ward 16 (Thevarmadom).

The ashrama has distributed ration kits (containing rice, dal, onion, potato, chilly powder, coriander powder, edible oil, soap and washing powder) to 124 people – all migrated labourers from other states – spread over 18 distribution points.



On 3 April 2020, the ashrama covered 5 wards of the Kalady Panchayat — Ward 3 (Vattapparambu), Ward 4 (Yordhanapuram), Ward 6 (Nettinampilly), Ward 13 (Mattoor North) and Ward 17 (Mattoor West).

Kalady ashrama has distributed the following items to 283 people – all migrated labourers from other states – spread over 15 distribution points :

Rice : 1415 kgs, Dal : 130 kgs, Potato : 225 kgs, Onion : 225 kgs, Chilly Powder : 15 kgs, Coriander power : 15 kgs, Oil : 48 ltrs, Washing Powder : 15 kgs, Soap : 283 nos, Lyzol : 15 ltr.



On 2 April 2020  the ashrama distributed relief materials in Wards 9 (Panayali) & 10 (Mekalady) of Kalady Panchayat. The ashrama distributed the following items to 465 people – all migrated labourers from other states staying in very pathetic conditions at 32 pockets. Among them, there were few who are living with family. Since these people do not have rations cards, they would not get any relief supplies from the Kerala government.

On 31 March 2020, the ashrama distributed food items (rice, onion, potato, cooking oil, salt, chilly powder, coriander powder), soaps and washing powder, to 42 auto-rickshaw drivers of Kalady Bus Stand who have been badly affected due to the loss of daily work.



In the wake of lockdown owing to COVID-19 pandemic, Ramakrishna Advaita Ashrama, Kalady, Kerala started relief services on 31 March 2020 in Kalady Panchayat. The main focus of this relief activity is non-native labours residing in groups in various parts of the Kalady Panchayat. Relief kits contained essential items for cooking for 7 days. The list of items supplied and quantity is given below.  They also distributed pamphlets in Bengali and Hindi which highlighted the do’s and dont’s in the wake of Coronavirus spread.

On 31 March 2020, the team handed over kits to 82 beneficiaries in Ward-11 of Kalady Panchayat.  Another kit was supplied to 4 members of a family living in a quarantine house. Mass cooking is going on in certain places of Kalady Panchayat. In Manickamangalam where there was a shortage of essential items for the mass cooking, the Ashrama supplied their kits and helped them continue their food supply.
