A felicitation program was organized in Ramakrishna Advaita Ashrama Kalady to honour ‘Padmashri’ M.K. Kunhjol, a former inmate of the Ashrama on 18 November 2021. Sri M.K. Kunhjol received this prestigious Padmashri Award from the Honorable President Shri Ram Nath Kovind on 8 November 2021 for his outstanding contribution to social work and his struggles to ensure justice and welfare to Harijans. Born in a very poor family, he came in contact with Swami Agamananda ji in 1955 who made all arrangements for his shelter and education. He spent nearly two years in Kalady Ashrama during his intermediate studies at Sree Sankara College which gradually changed his life. Being inspired by the teachings of the Holy Trio, he tried to reshape his life under the personal guidance of Swami Agamananda ji. He engaged himself continuously with ashrama and its service activities even after leaving Kalady Ashrama in 1957 for his higher education. Afterwards, he became a social reformer who fought all through his life to protect and enhance the rights of the poor downtrodden. He is now 82 years old and lives a very simple life with his family at Kottappady, Perumbavoor, Ernakulam District, Kerala.
A few locals, teachers, and students attended the program and got the opportunity to hear an inspiring speech from Padmashri M.K. Kunhjol. Ashrama felicitated him with a memento, shawl, and a few books of Holy Trio to recognise his extraordinary contribution and dedication towards social works.
