The Covid-19 pandemic has led to a great loss of human life worldwide. It has adversely impacted all aspects of human life, and it may take several years for people to fully recover from its pernicious effects.
Besides being the global headquarters of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, Belur Math is home to the central monastery of the Ramakrishna Order. Nearly 300 monks and novices and 350 staff live in Belur Math. In the pandemic situation, there arose a keen need for separate quarantine houses for monks and staff. To address this need, construction of a three-storey building was started in August 2020. Simultaneously, the work to add another floor to a single-storey building was taken up. Both the buildings are now ready for occupation.
Revered Swami Smaranananda ji Maharaj, President of the Ramakrishna Math and Ramakrishna Mission, inaugurated on 18 November 2021, the sacred birthday of Swami Vijnanananda ji Maharaj, the two buildings: Niranjanananda Bhavan (quarantine house for monks) and Subodhananda Bhavan (quarantine house for staff).
