Relief Services : A Brief Report as on 1 June 2023


Disturbance Relief

Manipur: In the wake of ethnic clashes in May, thousands of people have been internally displaced in Manipur state. They have been rendered helpless and homeless, with their houses burnt, properties destroyed, and forced to leave their land. Most of these displaced people are presently given shelter in more than 100 relief camps set up by different organizations.

At this hour of dire need, Imphal centre reached out to 48 relief camps sheltering more than 7500 displaced people from 2387 families in 5 districts. The centre distributed 7770 kg pulses, 1465 kg soya chunks, 1294 litres cooking oil, 225 kg assorted spices, 825 kg salt, 1224 packets of biscuits, 116 kg baby food, 20 kg tea powder, 153 kg infant milk, 350 kg sugar, 5384 bars of bathing soap, 401 kg detergent powder, 864 sachets of shampoo, 346 bottles of hair oil, 3499 tubes of toothpaste, 2329 toothbrushes, 80 combs, 157 baby diapers, 300 sanitary pads, 1721 ladies’ garments, 1605 cotton wrappers, 116 towels, 150 mosquito nets, 50 bed-sheets, 200 mats, 1013 blankets, 1123 plates, 1446 tumblers and 72 spoons among 2387 families in Bishnupur, Imphal East, Imphal West, Kakching and Thoubal districts from 10 to 28 May.


Fire Relief

Odisha: In the wake of a devastating fire accident, 5 houses in a slum in Puri were burned down. Puri Math centre distributed 100 kg rice, 10 kg pulses, 10 kg soya chunks, 10 kg salt, 5 litres cooking oil, 10 blankets and 10 saris among the 5 affected families on 25 December.


Distress Relief

The following centres distributed the items shown against their names to needy people:

India:

Bagda: 252 saris, 200 lungis, 52 sets of children’s garments, 200 towels, 20 school bags, 40 notebooks and 20 pens from 30 March to 17 April.

Chennai Students’ Home: 25 kg rice, 25 kg flour, 50 kg pulses, 25 kg gram, 25 kg semolina, 25 kg salt, 25 litres cooking oil, 25 kg tamarind, 13 kg assorted spices and 25 kg sugar on 1 May.

Cossipore, Kolkata: 125 plates of food, 65 saris and 60 dhotis on 1 May.

Hatamuniguda: 24 kg spices, 120 litres fruit juice, 60 bottles of hair oil, 60 tubes of toothpaste and 2400 immunity booster tablets on 5 May.

Jammu: 110 sets of textbooks in May.

Jayrambati: 400 kg pulses, 200 litres cooking oil, 60 kg assorted spices, 100 saris, 200 towels, 200 bottles of hair oil, 200 bars of bathing soap, 200 bars of washing soap and 200 kg detergent powder in March and April.

Kochi: 63 kg nutritional powder, 10 kg ayurvedic powder, 125 towels, 125 bottles of ayurvedic oil, 250 bars of bathing soap, 63 litres detergent, 63 litres dish-washing soap, 31 litres hand wash, 63 litres toilet cleaner, 250 tubes of toothpaste, 125 toothbrushes and 125 blankets on 14 May.

Koyilandy: 50 saris on 4 May.

Mayavati: 11,952 notebooks, 1992 pens, 996 pencils, 996 erasers and 996 geometry boxes in April.

South Africa:

Durban: 264 plates of food, 422 kg rice, 102 kg wheat flour, 227 kg maize meal, 282 kg pulses, 30 kg assorted vegetables, 195 kg porridge, 64 kg pasta, 79 litres cooking oil, 160 kg salt, 157 cans of jam, 425 cans of tinned food, 125 packets of soup powder, 125 litres fruit juice, 15,700 tea bags, 125 litres milk, 230 kg sugar, 3 packets of biscuits, 50 blankets, 50 woollen hats, 140 matchboxes, 32 tubes of toothpaste, 195 bars of washing soap and 70 bars of bathing soap in May.

Phoenix: 1400 kg rice, 478 kg maize meal, 40 kg wheat flour, 150 kg cereals, 126 kg pasta, 141 kg porridge, 850 kg pulses, 60 kg soya chunks, 1438 kg assorted vegetables, 70 kg assorted spices, 200 kg salt, 475 litres cooking oil, 630 cans of tinned food, 50 kg soup powder, 5600 breakfast cereal sachets, 2472 packets of biscuits, 627 cakes, 377 kg snacks, 270 litres fruit juice, 12 kg sweetmeat, 569 loaves of bread, 1600 sachets of peanut butter, 650 kg assorted fruits, 800 bars of chocolate, 15 kg Horlicks, 75 kg milk powder, 198 litres flavoured milk, 666 litres milk, 25,600 tea bags, 255 kg sugar, 300 matchboxes, 12 sets of household utensils (including crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils), 25 litres sanitizer, 350 bars of bathing soap, 150 bars of washing soap, 60 kg detergent powder, 150 tubes of toothpaste, 60 toothbrushes, 440 adult napkins, 100 assorted garments, 16 assorted bedding items, 34 blankets, 8 hot water bottles, 300 educational toys and 6 solar LED lights in May.


Summer Relief

West Bengal: Cossipore Math distributed sharbat to 1500 pedestrians from 19 April to 1

 


Infrastructural Support

Tamil Nadu: Salem centre distributed 2 baby warmers, an infants’ trolley and a photo-theraphy unit to a government hospital in Omalur on 3 May.

West Bengal: Bagda centre gave a projector to a school in Purulia district on 29 March.


Distress Rehabilitation

Vadodara centre renovated a hostel building at Dharampur in Valsad district in March.

Thanjavur centre renovated the house of a poor woman at Udharamangalam village in Thanjavur district on 14 April.


Flood Rehabilitation

Assam: Karimganj centre provided 592 corrugated tin sheets and 69 ridges from 7 to 26 March to 30 families in Karimganj district who had been hit by flood in June last year.


Cyclone Rehabilitation

West Bengal: The newly built relief shelter cum non-formal education centre at Hingalganj in North 24 Parganas district was inaugurated on 11 March. The building was constructed through Narendrapur centre, as part of the Cyclone Amphan rehabilitation project of the Headquarters.


Economic Rehabilitation

Vadodara centre handed over 30 sewing machines to as many poor women at Bhuj on 28 March.

Taki centre distributed 10 electric rickshaw-vans to as many needy people in North 24 Parganas district on 25 March.
