Relief Services : A Report As On 01 August 2024

Flood Relief

Floods caused by heavy rains wreaked havoc in some parts of the country in June and In the wake of the disaster, the following centres carried out relief operations:

Assam:

  • Dibrugarh centre distributed 4695 kg rice, 1734 kg pulses, 4695 kg potatoes, 470 kg soya chunks, 939 kg onions, 470 litres cooking oil, 939 kg salt, 87 kg assorted spices, 1300 packets of biscuits, 939 bars of bathing soap and 939 bars of dishwashing soap among 939 families in Lakhimpur and Majuli districts from 5 to 7 July.
  • Guwahati centre distributed 162 saris, 162 dhotis, 162 mosquito nets, 324 bars of bathing soap, 81 kg detergent powder, 73 litres phenyl and 81 kg bleaching powder among 162 families in Morigaon district on 13 July.
  • Karimganj centre distributed 8068 kg rice, 60 kg chira (rice flakes), 2050 kg pulses, 4217 kg potatoes, 627 kg soya chunks, 1358 litres cooking oil, 895 kg salt, 2 kg milk powder, 2530 packets of biscuits and 4953 bars of bathing soap among 3683 families in Karimganj district from 25 June to 6 July.

West Bengal: Jalpaiguri centre distributed 1030 kg rice, 103 kg chira  (rice flakes),  412 kg pulses, 412 kg potatoes, 206 kg soya chunks, 206 litres cooking oil, 206 kg salt, 206 packets of biscuits, 206 bars of peanut chikki, 1236 matchboxes, 206 bars of bathing soap,  206 bars of washing soap, 111 plastic mats, 111 mosquito nets, 111 blankets,  111 tarpaulins and 111 umbrellas among 206 families in Jalpaiguri district  on 14 and  19 July.


Disturbance Relief

Assam: Silchar centre continued its relief operations among those affected by ethnic violence in Jiribam, Manipur, and who have taken refuge in Cachar, Assam. The centre distributed 6958 kg rice, 1652 kg pulses, 408 kg soya chunks, 1652 litres cooking oil, 826 kg salt, 413 kg milk  powder  and  300  bars  of  bathing  soap  among  1176 families from 28 June to 10 July.


Tornado Relief

South Africa: In continuation of its relief services among the people affected by a violent tornado that swept through Tongaat town in the beginning of June, Durban centre distributed 125 litres drinking water, 22 tracksuits, 15 overalls, 85 blankets, 25 pillows and 12 duvets (bedding) among 80 families in Tongaat in


Distress Relief

The following centres distributed items shown against their names to needy people:

India:

  • Davanagere: 5400 notebooks, 1000 pens, 1000 pencils, 1000 pencil sharpeners, 1000 erasers, 200 compasses, 200 drawing sets and 204 geometry boxes from 15 June to 6 July.
  • Hatamuniguda: 148 saris, 148 lungis, 693 packets of energy drink, 1386 tubes of toothpaste, 545 toothbrushes, 129 bottles of body oil and 1090 pens from 1 to 19 July.
  • Imphal: 110 meals, 1378  notebooks, 120  pens, 30  pencils, 40 pencil sharpeners, 40 erasers, 216 bars of bathing soap, 50 toothbrushes and a few sports materials  on 24 and 28 July.
  • Indore: 177 T-shirts and 177 track pants on 17 July.
  • Kalyani: 280 kg rice, 70 kg puffed rice, 70 kg dalia (wheat groats), 35 kg pulses, 140 kg potatoes, 28 litres mustard oil and 14 packets of biscuits on 14 July.
  • Limbdi: 224 sets of school uniforms, 448 notebooks and 448 pens on 1 July.
  • Madurai: 1375 notebooks on 5 July.
  • Rajkot: 4500 packets of snacks on 24 and 26 July.
  • Thirumukkudal: 320 notebooks, 80 pencils, 80 sets of crayons, 80 pencil sharpeners, 80 erasers and 80 slates on 30 June and 7 July.

Bangladesh: Bagerhat: 10 water reservoir tanks (each of 500 litre capacity) on 26 July.


Fiji:  An electric mobility scooter, 9 wheelchairs, a wheelie walker, a set of elbow crutches, 100 diapers, 50 assorted garments and 12 hospital beds from April to July.


Nepal:  Kathmandu: 77 notebooks, 13 pens, 50 geometry boxes  and 77 school bags on 25 June.


South Africa:

  • Durban: 1155 meals, 407 kg rice, 97 kg wheat flour, 73 kg pasta, 211 kg maize meal, 303 kg pulses, 129 kg porridge, 208 litres cooking oil, 163 kg salt,  159 cans  of jam, 100 loaves of bread, 339 cans of tinned food, 134 packets of soup, 19,052 tea bags,     144 litres milk, 229 kg sugar, 104 matchboxes, 181 bars of laundry soap, 30 tubes of toothpaste, 30 baby gift packs (each  containing  booties,  hats  and  baby  sleepsuits), 108 saris,  115  ladies’  garments,  36  children’s  garments,  123  shirts,  10 trousers,  100 blankets, 49 woollen hats, 4 jackets and 8 duvets (bedding) in July.
  • Phoenix: 150 meals, 1500 kg rice, 135 kg fortified cereals, 125 kg maize meal, 40 kg wheat flour, 185 kg pasta, 100 kg porridge, 685 kg pulses, 20 kg macaroni, 55 kg soya chunks, 1460 kg assorted vegetables, 45 kg assorted spices, 210 kg salt, 425 litres cooking oil, 625 cans of tinned food, 45 kg soup powder, 5600 sachets of breakfast cereal, 4260 packets of biscuits, 150 cakes, 227 kg snacks, 355 litres fruit juice, 10 kg jam, 90 kg peanut butter, 62 kg sweetmeat, 265 loaves of bread, 220 kg assorted fruits, 800 bars of chocolate, 15 kg Horlicks, 15 kg Boost, 27 kg baby food, 18 litres flavoured milk, 690 litres milk, 15,500 tea bags, 5 kg coffee, 275 kg sugar, 330 matchboxes, 6 sets of crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils, 128 bars of bathing soap, 125 bars of laundry soap, 30 kg detergent powder, 2 litres detergent liquid, 14 litres body lotion, 105 tubes of toothpaste, 60 toothbrushes, 768 sanitary pads, 760 adult napkins, 223 assorted garments, 30 assorted bedding items, 21 blankets, 16 school bags, 300 educational toys, 20 packets of seeds, and 3 wheelchairs in July.

Summer Relief

West Bengal: Kamarpukur centre served 2800 litres of buttermilk to 11,200 wayfarers from 14 April to 31 May.


Storm Rehabilitation

Assam: Heavy rainfall and storms destroyed several houses in Karimganj district in In response to the calamity, Karimganj centre  provided 1386 corrugated tin sheets and 150 riggings to 78 affected families from 30 June to 4 July to help them relay the roofs of their houses.


Tornado Rehabilitation

West Bengal: A violent tornado tore through Jalpaiguri district on 31 March, uprooting several trees in its Jalpaiguri centre distributed 191 coconut seedlings, 955 betel nut seedlings and 382 bay leaf (tez patta) seedlings  to 191 families on 26 July to mitigate the damage.


Distress Rehabilitation

Almora centre provided 40 bags of cement, 20 steel bars, 200 cubic feet stone chips, 600 cubic feet sand, 6000 bricks, 20 steel pipes, 2 wooden doors, 2 wooden windows, 25 kg paint and 14 corrugated tin sheets to a poor family of Deouli village in Almora in April to build a kitchen and a cowshed.


Economic Rehabilitation

Odisha: Puri Math gave 10 sewing machines to as many women in Puri district on 30 June.


Infrastructural  Support

Fiji: centre handed over 1000 eyeglasses, a hospital bed, 2 CBG monitoring machines, 3 kidney dialysis machines, a defibrillator machine, 2 water purifiers and a patient’s trolley to 4 hospitals in Fiji between April and July.
