Disturbance Relief

Manipur: Continuing its relief operations for the victims of ethnic clashes which began in May, Imphal centre distributed the following items from 1 to 29 October in 66 relief camps in Imphal East, Imphal West, Thoubal, Kakching and Bishnupur districts sheltering 9930 people from 3047 families: 140 kg pulses, 110 kg black gram, 100 kg soya chunks, 48 litres cooking oil, 22 kg assorted spices, 40 kg dry chillies, 1920 packets of biscuits, 170 kg sugar, 1024 kg Horlicks, 6 kg baby food, 272 kg infant milk, 9 litres health drinks, 208 kg milk powder, 300 tumblers, 1942 tubes of toothpaste, 1942 bars of bathing soap, 1942 kg detergent powder, 1942 sachets of shampoo, 144 bottles of hair oil, 96 combs, 18 trousers, 110 towels, 128 T-shirts, 190 bedsheets, 548 pairs of socks, 5831 blankets, 8514 notebooks, 1595 pens, 1480 pencils, 471 crayons, 1420 pencil sharpeners, 1390 erasers and 5 bicycles.

Fire Relief

Assam: In the wake of a fire accident on the outskirts of Karimganj town, Karimganj centre provided 25 kg rice, 3 kg pulses, 8 kg potatoes, 4 blankets, 4 pillows, 4 mosquito nets, 4 bedsheets, 4 saris, 9 plates, 1 tumbler, 1 frying pan, 1 cooking pot, 3 ladles and 3 gas stoves to 3 affected families on 26 October.

Distress Relief

The Headquarters and the following centres distributed items shown against their names to needy people:

India:

  • Asansol: 2000 saris on 2 October.
  • Bagda: 716 saris, 500 lungis, 500 towels, 100 T-shirts and 358 books from 8 September to 19 October.
  • Bamunmura: 500 saris from 1 to 8 October.
  • Barasat: 1044 saris, 184 dhotis and 182 tumblers from 14 to 20 October.
  • Barisha, Kolkata: 500 saris, 250 lungis and 250 dhotis from 14 to 20 October.
  • Belgharia, Kolkata: 175 saris and 150 lungis from 29 September to 10 October.
  • Cooch Behar: 100 plates of food, 52 notebooks, 52 pens, 52 bars of soap, 52 bottles of hair  oil, 52 tubes of toothpaste, 52 toothbrushes and 52 assorted garments on 1 October.
  • Deoghar: 500 saris, 100 dhotis and 400 lungis from 19 to 25 October.
  • Digboi: 201 dhotis and 47 saris on 18 and 19 October.
  • Gurap: 500 saris and 100 lungis between 30 September and 14 October.
  • Guwahati: 500 saris, 469 dhotis and 469 vests from 14 to 28 October.
  • Headquarters: 100 mosquito nets, 600 saris, 150 dhotis, 250 lungis and 247 children’s garments from 13 to 18 October.
  • Jalpaiguri: 465 saris and 77 dhotis from 1 to 14 October.
  • Jhargram: 500 saris, 500 dhotis and 104 children’s garments from 1 August to 15 October.
  • Kankurgachhi, Kolkata: 300 mosquito nets, 440 dhotis, 737 saris and 60 children’s garments from 1 to 18 October.
  • Karimganj: 1000 kg wheat flour, 1000 kg potatoes, 250 kg soya chunks, 500 kg pulses, 250 litres cooking oil, 250 kg sugar, 250 kg milk powder, 125 kg tea leaves, 500 packets of biscuits, 500 bars of bathing soap, 250 kg detergent powder, 500 mosquito nets, 500 bedsheets, 500 mugs, 2081 saris and 390 dhotis from 7 to 19 October.
  • Kasundia, Howrah: 810 saris, 500 lungis, 300 dhotis, 100 mosquito nets, 24 litres fruit juice, 60 tubes of toothpaste and 32 bottles of honey in October.
  • Koyilandy: 60 saris and 60 lungis on 15 October.
  • Malda: 995 saris and 750 lungis from 11 September to 25 October.
  • Manasadwip: 649 children’s garments and 4000 saris from 13 September to 13 October.
  • Nabadwip: 500 saris, 500 lungis, 75 dhotis, 96 sets of assorted ladies’ garments and 84 sets of shirts & trousers on 14 and 15 October.
  • Naora: 200 coconut plants, 538 gents’ garments, 462 ladies’ garments, 200 lungis, 250 dhotis and 3000 saris from 5 August to 18 October.
  • Prayagraj: 99 shirts, 250 saris and 100 salwar suits on 17 October.
  • Puri Mission: 500 saris from 9 to 13 October.
  • Rajarhat-Bishnupur, Kolkata: 350 saris on 11 and 12 October.
  • Ramharipur: 100 food packets, 1050 saris, 500 lungis and 918 assorted children’s garments from 8 to 16 October.
  • Sahudangi: 1200 saris in September.
  • Saradapitha: 1000 saris, 600 lungis, 400 dhotis and 400 uttariyas from 22 September to 13 October.
  • Somsar: 300 saris from 12 to 16 October.
  • Taki: 1142 saris, 600 lungis, 1000 dhotis and 150 children’s garments from 23 September to 21 October.
  • Tamluk: 500 saris from 25 September to 10 October.
  • Thanjavur: 160 saris and 40 dhotis on 27 October.

Bangladesh: Bagerhat: 308 saris and 25 lungis from 18 to 24 October.

Nepal: Kathmandu: 135 school bags from 20 August to 12 October.

South Africa: (a) Durban: 770 plates of food, 430 kg rice, 87 kg wheat flour, 220 kg maize meal, 395 kg pulses, 125 kg porridge, 68 litres cooking oil, 135 kg salt, 125 cans of jam, 290 cans of tinned food, 16,542 tea bags, 145 litres milk, 138 kg sugar, 14 blankets and 192 bars of washing soap in October.

(b) Phoenix: 1750 kg rice, 175 kg fortified cereals, 215 kg maize meal, 60 kg wheat flour, 210 kg pasta, 102 kg porridge, 975 kg pulses, 15 kg macaroni, 50 kg soya chunks, 1450 kg assorted vegetables, 65 kg assorted spices, 275 kg salt, 885 litres cooking oil, 400 cans of tinned food, 40 kg soup powder, 5600 breakfast cereal sachets, 2110 packets of biscuits, 150 cakes, 492 kg snacks, 400 litres fruit juice, 87 kg sweetmeat, 425 loaves of bread, 800 bars of peanut chikki, 575 kg assorted fruits, 15 kg Horlicks, 575 litres drinking water, 178 litres flavoured milk, 625 litres milk, 27,500 tea bags, 375 kg sugar, 300 matchboxes, 29 sets of crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils, 15 litres sanitizer, 475 bars of bathing soap, 175 bars of washing soap, 44 kg detergent powder, 120 litres detergent liquid, 132 tubes of toothpaste, 72 toothbrushes, 640 adult napkins, 123 assorted garments, 30 assorted bedding items, 14 blankets, 300 educational toys, 2 wheelchairs and 1 electric stove in October.

Zambia: Lusaka: 150 kg mealie meal in October.

Winter Relief

India:

  • Belagavi: 500 blankets from 2 September to 10 October.
  • Belgharia: 175 blankets from 29 September to 1 October.
  • Hatamuniguda: 300 blankets on 17 October.
  • Jalpaiguri: 450 blankets from 1 to 14 October.
  • Karimganj: 500 blankets on 14 October.
  • Rishikesh: 200 blankets on 27 October.

Nepal: Kathmandu: 58 sweaters on 12 October.

Distress Rehabilitation

Tamil Nadu: Chennai Students’ Home has undertaken construction of 28 huts for tribal families in Alapakkam village of Chengalpattu district with financial aid from the Headquarters. Construction of ten huts has been completed; the work on the rest is in progress.
