Relief Services : A Report As On 01 September 2024

Flood Relief

India: Floods in July and August caused severe damage in some parts of the country. The following centres conducted relief operations in response to the disaster:

(i) Assam:

  1. Dibrugarh centre distributed 5 litres cooking oil, 11 kg salt, 290 packets of biscuits, 11 bars of dishwashing soap and 11 bars of bathing soap in Majuli district on 7 July.
  2. Silchar centre distributed 12,810 kg rice, 2562 kg pulses, 641 kg soya chunks,  2562 litres cooking oil and 512 kg milk powder among 2562 families in Cachar district from 11 July to 2 August.

(ii) Gujarat:

  1. Rajkot centre served meals to 900 persons and distributed 1550 food packets and 1700 packets of snacks in Rajkot district from 27 to 29 August.
  2. Vadodara centre served meals to 2600 persons and distributed 2000 bananas and 1600 packets of snacks in Vadodara district from 28 to 30 August.

(iii) Himachal Pradesh: Shimla centre distributed 1050 kg rice, 500 kg wheat flour, 200 kg pulses, 100 litres cooking  oil, 100 kg salt,  15 kg assorted spices, 5 kg dry chillies, 250 kg sugar, 25 kg tea  leaves,  50  pressure  cookers,  50  cooking  pots,  50  kadais, 50 frying pans, 50 saucepans, 50 tawas, 100 ladles, 50 sets of rolling boards and pins, 100 knives, 250 tumblers, 250 plates, 50 buckets, 50 mugs, 50 jugs, 250 toothbrushes, 50 tubes of toothpaste, 100 bars of bathing soap, 50 kg detergent powder, 100 blankets, 100 mattresses, 100 pillows, 100 EPE foam sheets, 100 bedsheets and 100 tarpaulins among 50 families in Kullu and Shimla districts on 4 and 5 August.


(iv) Kerala: Kozhikode centre served meals to 125 persons in Kozhikode district on 31 July.


(v) Tripura:

  1. Dhaleswar centre, Agartala, served meals to 1750 persons and distributed 550 kg rice, 275 kg pulses, 275 kg soya chunks,  550  litres  drinking  water,  300  saris, 250 dhotis and 550 children’s garments among 550 families in West Tripura district from 23 to 29 August. Additionally, the centre set up a medical relief camp where 200 patients were treated.

  2. Kailashahar centre served meals to 5000 persons and distributed 1350 kg chira (rice flakes), 945 kg sugar, 5400 kg rice, 1350 kg pulses, 2025 kg potatoes, 675 kg soya chunks, 540 litres cooking oil, 1350 kg salt, 270 kg milk powder, 2700 packets of biscuits and 1350 bars of bathing soap among 1350 families in Unakoti district from 21 to 25 August.

  3. Viveknagar centre, Agartala, served meals  to  1620  persons  and  distributed  1378 litres drinking water, 1750 packets of bread, 816 cakes, 2400 packets of biscuits, 60 litres milk, 1300 kg rice, 260 kg pulses and 1250 kg potatoes among 2850 families in West Tripura district from 22 to 25 August. Additionally, the centre set up a medical camp where 200 patients were treated and given medicines.

(vi) Uttarakhand: Dehradun centre distributed 300 tarpaulins and 345 solar lamps among 247 families in Tehri Garhwal district on 12 August.


(vii) West Bengal: Rahara centre served meals to 3467 persons in North 24 Parganas district on 4 August.


Bangladesh: Chandpur centre distributed 1242 kg chira, 621 kg molasses, 1242 litres drinking water, 621 packets of biscuits,  1242  packets  of  ORS,  621  matchboxes  and  1242 candles among 621 families in Feni and Lakshmipur districts from 25 to 28 August.


Disturbance Relief

Bangladesh: Tragic violence, riots and arson during the protests that began in June, adversely affected many lives across In the wake of the unrest, Bagerhat centre distributed 250 kg rice, 50 kg pulses, 65 kg potatoes, 50 kg onions, 25 litres cooking oil, 50 kg salt and 25 kg sugar among 50 families in Bagerhat district on 24 August.


Distress Relief

The following centres distributed items shown against their names to needy people:

India:

Cuttack: 36 notebooks, 36 pens, 36 pencils, 36 pencil  sharpeners,  36 erasers and 36 school bags on 28 July.


Halasuru, Bengaluru: 20,885 notebooks, 3423 pens,  900  pencils,  884  erasers, 2257 geometry boxes and 479 school bags in June and July. The centre also distributed 27 large umbrellas to as many roadside vendors.


Hatamuniguda: 416 cakes, 594 litres fruit juice,  100  packets  of  energy  drink, 842 tubes of toothpaste, 278 toothbrushes, 724 bottles of body oil and 408 pens from 2 to 27 August.


Indore: 478 T-shirts, 478 track pants, 350 packets of sweets, 11,500  notebooks, 1650 pens, 1650 pencils, 1650 pencil sharpeners, 1650 scales and 1650 stationery pouches on 24 July, 30 July and 24 August.


Kalyani: 312 kg rice, 78 kg puffed rice, 47 kg pulses, 39 kg soya chunks, 156 kg potatoes, 31 litres cooking oil, 78 kg salt, 39 kg sugar, 52 cakes, 52 packets of sweets, 156 bottles of hair oil, 104 notebooks, 52 pencil boxes, 52 school bags and 52 umbrellas on 16 and 26 August.


Madurai: 94 kg semolina, 94 kg pulses, 94 litres cooking oil, 19 kg chilli powder, 47 kg sambar powder, 47 kg tamarind, 94 kg sugar and 94 bars of bathing soap  on  3 and 24 August.


Nagpur: 1015 sets of school uniforms, 3045 notebooks, 1015 pens, 1015 pencils, 1015 pencil sharpeners, 1015 erasers and 1015 scales from 15 to 31 July.


Narottam Nagar: 138 umbrellas on 18 August.


Nattarampalli:  316  kg  pulses,  77  litres  cooking  oil,  26  kg  assorted  spices,  77 packets of rock salt, 7 kg tea powder, 77 kg sugar and 77 bottles of hair oil  on  20 August.

Ootacamund: 70 meals on 30 July.


Porbandar: 600 kg rice, 750 kg wheat flour, 750 kg bajra (pearl millet), 150 kg pulses, 150 kg besan (gram flour), 250 litres cooking oil, 150 kg salt, 90 kg assorted spices, 150 kg molasses,  150 kg sugar,  75 kg tea  powder and  150 kg snacks  on  26 August.


Thanjavur: 32 sets of school uniforms on 15 August.


Viveknagar, Agartala: 2700 food packets from 26 June to 18 August.


Nepal: Kathmandu: 105 notebooks, 47 pens, 59 geometry boxes  and 85 school bags on 5 July. Additionally, the centre provided 60 kg rice, 5 kg pulses and 8 litres milk to a school in Bhaktapur and refilled a gas cylinder to support the midday meals for 123 students.


South Africa:

Durban: 960 meals, 490 kg rice, 80 kg wheat flour, 165 kg pasta, 210 kg maize meal, 490 kg pulses, 230 kg porridge, 290 litres cooking oil, 255 kg salt, 260 cans  of jam, 520 cans of tinned food, 100 packets of soup, 20,300 tea bags, 230 litres milk, 310 kg sugar, 100 matchboxes, 180 bars of laundry soap, 30 tubes of toothpaste, 198 ladies’ garments,  60  children’s  garments,  20  men’s  shirts  and  16 blankets in August.

Phoenix: 1520 kg rice, 85 kg fortified cereals, 115 kg maize meal, 60 kg wheat flour, 180 kg pasta, 100 kg porridge, 750 kg pulses, 20 kg macaroni, 45 kg soya chunks, 1225 kg assorted vegetables, 40 kg assorted spices, 177 kg salt, 1125 litres cooking oil, 545 cans of tinned food, 45 kg soup powder, 5600 sachets of breakfast cereal, 3860 packets of biscuits, 150 cakes, 2 kg semolina, 442 kg snacks, 605 litres fruit juice, 12 kg sweetmeat, 265 loaves of bread, 180 kg assorted fruits, 15 kg Boost, 18 litres flavoured milk, 590 litres milk, 11,000 tea bags, 5 kg coffee, 255 kg sugar, 250 matchboxes, 4 sets of crockery, cutlery and cooking utensils, 118 bars of bathing soap, 115 bars of laundry soap, 25 kg detergent powder, 85 tubes of toothpaste, 60 toothbrushes, 768 sanitary pads, 780 adult napkins, 100 assorted garments, 16 assorted bedding items, 8 blankets, 25 school bags,  300 educational toys, 20 packets of seeds, 2 prepaid electricity vouchers and 2 wheelchairs in August.


Sri Lanka: Batticaloa sub-centre of Colombo ashrama distributed 6300 notebooks from 1 to 16 August.


Tornado Rehabilitation

West Bengal: A violent tornado tore through Jalpaiguri district on 31 March, uprooting several trees in its wake. Jalpaiguri centre distributed 309 coconut seedlings, 1545 betel nut seedlings, 450 lemon seedlings, 450 guava seedlings and 618 bay leaf (tez patta) seedlings to 309 families on 31 July and 3 August to mitigate the damage.
